You've already got Nordstrands in there - might as well go for a Nordy preamp! I've installed in three instruments and they are some of my faves. The Nordy is sort of like a Sadowsky preamp with some extra flexibility. Plus Carey is a great guy. Worth a shot!

I am reluctantly selling my beautiful Pedulla Pentabuzz. It's in the classifieds if interested. Just not playing much fretless these days... and I'm afraid to play this one out for fear of damaging it.

I installed the new barts last weekend. They have a stronger output than the stock pickups, which I think were defective. Still not super loud.
I was hoping that the swap would really blown my hair back with a big change in the tone. There wasn't a massive change. It had always had a smooth tone for a jazz bass. Almost too polite. It just isn't a bass that takes a pick or heavy finger playing.

Funny thing is I started to rotate more this new year and I brought it to church the week before last and it was magic there! Used it through my regular little silent stage board and used it just M87 and VTDI(SVT setting) on the first song, added light chorus on the second song, added light delay on the slow open third song and took off delay on the last song. This is my board I usually mostly use for my PentaBuzz. Bringing it again this week!!

I have a question to fellow pedulla owners with natural finishes on body and neck... the manual for my 94 thunderbuzz 6 says:

anyone done a coat of tung oil mixture on their neck? in the 26+ years i've never done this, but am doing a bunch of work on it, so i figured its probably a good time. I'm getting the Scotch Brite ultra fine (37448) pad, any suggestion on what brand of tung oil to use?

also - thru my stupidity i put this scratch in the wood by the bridge while adjusting it... any idea what the finish is on natural basses? is it tung oil as well? i'm thinking i can buff it out with 1000-4000 grit (have done this on other guitars & basses that have hard finishes) but not sure what to use on natural basses...

hi. same as you on thunderbolt. so i change the pream and pass on 5 knobs with upgrade . switch on table...and now the sound is.....exceptionnal. but i play first my two mvp ....so sad to trade or sale my thunderbolt which sound very specific and in all registers

I brought my ThunderBolt 6 back to church today and it was just pretty amazing sounding. I rolled off the tone almost all the way and it was just right! Smooth and the highs were not so brittle rolled back. The bottom is really good and the blend up to the highs is well balanced and is very good noodling lightly behind keys and pads. I am still kinda astonished how it’s transformed somehow. I still am not sure. Don’t if the board teamed it somehow or if I’ve just finally found that tight little sweet spot with my three knobs and that little mid switch. I was all ready (when I get a job again and can start working again) to swap out out the pickups and preamp and add a couple more knobs. Now, I might just leave the darned thing as is. Huuuuummmn.

Assuming the back of your neck isn't down to the bare wood, I would not use tung oil on your bass. Use a nice finishing wax instead. I would also not try to sand out that nick by the bridge - you will be left with a much larger area that needs to be refinished and it's never going to look quite right.

thx for hte recommendation on the nick in the bridge area... maybe i'll just try to buff vs sand with a finishing wax and see if that helps.

When i said "tung oil on the neck" what i really meant to say was "tung oil on the natural fretboard" which is what hte manual suggested. I've done some searches on guitar/bass sites and answers ranged from "i've never had to oild my fretboard" to "I do it every other year", but those are presumably fretted guitars/basses, not a natural ebony (?) fretboard. I have seen folks seal a fretless fretboard with tung oil (& its recommended by pedulla) so am not worried about hurting it, and i'm hoping that it creates a harder surface to play against. Has anyone done this on their pedulla (I know most fretless pedulla's have a poly coat, not natural)?
