The Pedulla Club!

I'm not sure if this new "Rapture" config will have a battery compartment, but the existing ones do because the electronics are only accessed thru the pickguard, not the back. It kinda needs it, otherwise you'll be loosening strings and removing the pickguard every time just to change a battery.

Oh, by the way, we DON'T want to get THAT discussion going again. Read earlier in this thread, and you'll understand. We practically had to 12-steps our way out of it. :D

I definitely understand the importance - I was just commenting on how it would LOOK nicer (to me), if it were from the same wood / paint scheme (for raptures) as the body, much like on MTD or F basses.

The T-Bolt arrived as predicted on Friday the 13th. I had no chance to do anything with it Friday, but I spent a fair amount of time with it yesterday. Overall, it is in fair/good condition. Here's what I've done so far:

  • "Unstrung" & cleaned it; I haven't got the new Pedulla cleaning/polishing kit for ET basses (this one is cocobolo), so I used my basic guitar polish, which couldn't get out the wear marks/swirls around the control knobs. :(
  • Replaced the heavy gold knobs with Mike's "basic black" ones leftover from other basses. Someday it may get gold w/abalone mini-domes or small wood (cocobolo?) knobs; the controls are quite closely spaced.
  • The cavity cover is cracked through the mounting holes at both ends and will need to be replaced or more securely repaired (epoxy, perhaps); for now I've put fiberglass-reinforced tape on it.
  • Replaced the battery and its connector; the old connector had broken and apparently shorted the battery; the battery had swollen and was beginning to leak, but I couldn't find any additional/resultant damage in the control cavity.
  • 2 of the 3 preamp modules had come "unglued", so I hot-glued them.
  • Tightened the nut holding the output jack.
  • Changed the strings; the DR Lo-Riders on it were quite dead.
  • Lowered the action (a little too much, I'll have to raise it slightly) at the bridge and adjusted the neck. The bridge is one of those designs that require you to feed the strings through holes on the a$$ end; I don't like that much - changing strings is awkward and it's easy to scratch the finish of the bass - so eventually it'll get replaced, probably at the same time it gets a fret job, which it needs <sigh>.
  • Tightened the strap pins - they'll get swapped out for Dunlop StrapLoks eventually.

It's now (secure and) very easy to play. The sound is on the dry side, but it has great sustain, which surprised me. Adjusting the pickup balance seems to give a more pronounced "out-of-phase" or "hollow" sound than I'm accustomed to. The neck length is shorter than my other basses and the (MoP?) side maker dots aren't very visible, so I'm having a little trouble anchoring my left hand reliably right now - I wonder about replacing the dots w/something else (not LEDs, however)...

I've got to install a new PC for a friend today, but it's sunny, so I'll see about snapping and posting some pics later.

Best wishes to all,
Richard

I remember reading in a Guitar Player Magazine way back when(before Bass Player came out) that Danny Gatton had some Cubic Zirconia installed...he stated that he was able to see where he was on the neck with virtually no light because the CZ picks up light from anywhere.

Just trying to help man...

CZs, hm? Mine has an all-maple neck, so I was thinking more along the lines of something w/more contrast, like ebony (the friend suggested black magic marker)..

There've been some pretty PentaBuzzes on eBay in the last few months, as well as some sold here. I really wanted one in the vintage cherry color, but found a great price on a green-blue burst '94 P-Buzz last year... Not in a working band, so I've been able to use it as my main bass for the past year; I'll never be Jaco, but I love playing it!

Mike and Christine(!) are awesome.

I think I heard somewhere that they’re going to call the new bass the “Pedulla Oblongata."

Would like to ask our club founder about the electronics upgrade. I have a 90's pentabuzz with 3 knobs. Did you send it to Pedulla for upgrades or did you do them yourself? Do they add to the electronics or do I remove them myself to save some money? May I have a number? Thanks PREZ!;)

you most definitely can have a number! as far as the electronics go, i did bring it to pedulla to have them put in (of course i only live about 20 minutes from the shop). He basically took out all the electronics and put in all new stuff...i definitely thought it sounded better after the job, and that mid switch is wonderful. If you ask him to save the old electronics he will...i was able to sell mine after to make a little of the money back. If you can do it yourself more power to ya, but i don't have any skills in that area and i wanted to make sure it was done correctly.
