Hi Ian - thanks for the compliments!
I have been to Bass Specialties a couple of times - Glenn is a really nice guy and has some AWESOME basses in his store! I think in the very near future I'm going to head over there and take a Bergantino 610 or 412 for a test ride - and hopefully buy it.

I actually left the music sceene bace in 99 - I was just fedup with egos and such... got back into totally by accident last January (doing some home recording - today's software is freakin' great!), and well one thing lead to another and I've built up an aresenal of gear (which why I have so much to now sell - LOL).

Do you play out?

Ok, I have the opportunity to pickup a Thunderbass from GC, BUT the nut on the truss rod is stripped (the tech says he is 98% that the rod is not broke, just stripped at the nut); if this is the case I've been told that I can get the nut 'reshaped' for about $200 - there is a guy in the area who is excellent at repair (I know from 1st hand exp).
I was also told that it looks like the previous owner tried to drill a hole in the top of the rod, like to adjusted it like a flat-head screwdriver...
So the question is - do I take a chance? Unfortunately I can't try the bass becuase its half way across the country - I did get some pics and it looks to be in fair condition (7 out of 10). I realize that if the rod is beyond repair, its going to cost around 1k to fix (the bass is being offered to me for $800).

hmm...i don't know, those truss rods are tricky buggers. :)

now that i think of it though, if its in decent shape, even if it can't be repaired you're getting a T bass for $1800 which really isn't all that bad. It may just depend on whether or not you want to deal with the hassle, or just look for another one.

I'd suggest giving Mike P. a call at the shop and asking him if he thinks the end of truss rod can be salvaged.

This is a photo of me playing a bar gig in Northern Wisconsin a couple of years ago. The Pedulla is still my main bass , and I can't see me ever getting rid of it. I've tried some other high end basses in music stores and I set them down after a few minutes of playing , because they don't play as well as my Pedulla. Pedulla-Player

OK, at the very worst case, the cost for a trussrod replacement by Pedulla is $950.00 (as per [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]), so the total cost to you would be $1750.00 plus some shipping.

I'd be worried that there were other home repair jobs also, just not pictured. Unless you are skilled at working with metal, drilling a steel rod (while said steel rod is encased in exotic hardwoods) accurately is very difficult, especially if the previous owner was trying to 'convert' it to another style of attachment, i.e., a screwdriver.

For me, I'd get the full trussrod replacement from Pedulla, as that is still a decent deal, provided the rest of the bass is worth it. I wouldn't take this chance from halfway across the country though - that could just be me. It also sound's like you'll need a trussrod adjustment tool from Pedulla ($15.00)

My GC has always been willing to bring basses from other stores for me to try, and they have that "use it for 30 days; if you don't like it get your $s back" policy... Perhaps that doesn't hold for gear known to be damaged, or the low $800 price is specifically because they're unwilling to ship it... I would lean on them strongly. Other thoughts: I wouldn't recommend trying to fudge the nut and I'd only have Mike do the repair (easy for me to say because he's only an hour away); I wouldn't invest that much in a bass I'd never played knowing it needed such an expensive repair - if you watch Craigslist, eBay, Sweetwater, et al, you can find T-Basses in reasonable shape for the same $1800 or less...

ps I just got my "new" T-Bolt back last Thursday (I've been sick ever since, but when I can do more than type I'll see about posting a couple of pictures) and had a chance to see one of the new prototypes - beautiful!

Hey guys, I was bored today and decided i wanted to design some pedulla shirts...I'm not too fond of the ones they currently offer :) I emailed them to Christine, but haven't gotten a response yet. It would be pretty cool if we could set something up where members to the club pay a fee and then get a shirt or something.

what do you think?? (yes that's me modeling...i photoshopped the designs onto a shirt i was wearing)

And i must say i was never too fond of the slogan... It sounds a bit cocky to me... I'd keep it out of the shirt... but that's just me.
