The Pedulla Club!

I had the same problem. I loved the neck and overall feel of my bass, but after a while wanted something else tone-wise. Bartolini custom winds the pickups for Pedullas. I swapped the Pedulla Bart soapbars in my Thunderbolt for Bart Classic series soapbars. Pedulla also uses a proprietary preamp. I swapped mine for a Glockenklang. The difference is like night and day-much more presence and clarity. I had the same thought about the tone (kind of dull). This really fixed it for me.
Nordstrands will not directly drop in. Nor can they make a 19mm spaced pickup fit the Bart BC shape that Pedulla . Yes, I called them directly to inquire.

I have had my pedulla fretless for a few months now, and its a solidly built peice of kit, but i am dissapointed in two areas.

The barts just dont do it for me, very dead and lifeless and very hard to cut through a death metal band with. I am considering changing the pickups and pre-amp, Does anyone know of any direct drop in replacement pickups and a suitable pre-amp that will just drop right in :)

Also, being in the UK i am finding it very very hard to find anyone who will refinish the poly coating on the fingerboard(In fact anyone), Would epoxy make it similar? I dont want the Board to be torn up anymore.

I was so engrossed in my pre-amp problem that I forgot to give ASOMODAI's bass it's propers. That bass is the sheetz, and I would paint your house and wash your car for that bass. Mine is a 90's with standard p/j with a three knob preamp, without much MWAH. Just to send it back to Pedulla for 4 knob and a switch preamp I am looking at almost 500 bucks. What year is your bass ASOMODAI. I don't recall seeing any soapbars in a pentabuzz, must be fairly new. SAH-WEET bass SIR, and thanks for sharing those AMAZING pics.

Welcome to the club! Hope you find some pups you like better than the barts...

I recently snagged a Thunderbass from 1993. I have compared the way that the trussrod end at the headstock looks compared to my Rapture and I see 2 different things. I have the square tool to adjust the Rapture's trussrod but the Thunderbass had no tools with it and looks like a nut. is this something unique just in THIS bass? or was this a trussrod type used in other basses around that time frame? mine is from 1993.

anybody else has a clue? what tool should I use for this trussrod?

thanks guys

Here is my 97 Penta-Buzz.

It was originally Blue-Green burst but it was badly damaged when it was knocked off a stand at a show so I sent it back to Michael for a new look.

Now it's finished in Trans-Rose and it's gorgeous!

This is one bass I will never sell. In fact I'm still looking for a Peacock Blue or Emerald Green MVP with 17mm spacing to give me a matched pair.

It has the best overall fretless tone I have ever heard. I am always amazed when I hear recordings of this bass. They just don't get any better.......

Famous last words. :rollno: I hope you're enjoying it Jody!

hmm...its possible maybe the top of the broke off? I have a 1990 MVP and it still has the Squared off truss rod. You might want to contact Pedulla and ask them.

when i open my trussrod cover I see the threaded rod and a nut in there already threaded on. this is weird because I saw another Thunderbass with the same thing and I asked Pedulla and they do not know what is the deal. they are doing research on it right now. it has a straight neck and i am not trying to adjust it .. i was just saying for the future since I just got this bass.

All of my 90s Pedullas use the "special" tool (same tool used for tuning autoharps, etc); but my 80s buzz is different, and here's what Mike told me back when:
" The older basses didn't need a special wrench for the trussrod, just a 5/16" nut driver. =) " Perhaps you got one that was built with an older part...

BTW, for all you fans out there; there is no "factory"; although he had expanded his workforce to include to several assistants for a while, Mike now does all the work in his shop himself and Christine handles the administrative side. Both are absolutely great.

that might be it because it clearly looks like a big screw with a nut and washer on top to adjust.... weird. I communicated with Christine and said they were all supposed to have the autoharp special tool-like trussrod but this might be an older trussrod used in mine. will try.

thansk again.

I love the bass... might do the upgrade later on for the 4 knobs but since I have my eq at my amp i might just leave it like that.. untouched. ;)

Well I guess this is as good as a first post as any. This guy has been my one and only bass for almost 20 years now and it's never let me down. It's been rocked and it's been rolled, it's got some bruises but I wouldn't change a thing on it.

Cool looking MVP! I love seeing battle worn Pedullas :) Welcome to the club:

Can I have a number, I've got one modded from Mike Lull .. EMG P and CS, Aguilar obp1, passive tone, vol, vol and an 18volt dual battery compartment......she finally sounds closer to the sound in my head.

Cool mods. I'd love to hear what it sounds like!
