I’m trying out this older PRS bass after reading lots of negative stuff online about them. It’s well built and comfortable to play. The active circuit is a bit of an enigma and that’s possibly where the negativity arises from. It seems to enhance some of the sub frequencies and apart from that the passive and active modes sound pretty similar with the exception of the active signal level boost.
I find the bass quite a good instrument otherwise if used in passive mode through my Avalon U5.I’m attaching a couple pics of the bass.

I had one of those in the late nineties. Sunburst. It was a great studio bass.

These (Grainger core) are very nice basses, but the stock volume pots are either wide open 10 or 00, no gradual up/down, with just a slight turn. To me, I like controlling my volume at my bass, not having to walk to the amp to adjust it.
I’m really considering replacing the stock volume pots.

I set up my amp with the bass low,mids and high in the middle. If I feel I need a bit more volume, I tweak those instead on the bass.

NBD, For me. PRS SE Kingfisher.Ive been looking at these on Reverb for the last year. Watching utube reviews, there really isn’t a PRS dealer anywhere near me so I saw this one with all the birds eye and took a chance. It was used ,so a good price..
My initial impression is that this is a fantastic bass, well kept secret. Action is extremely low, but no buzz.Neck is very comfortable. Fret ends are polished and filed .Hipshot Bridge and tunners are awesome. A joy to play.

Nice PRS family! I also have a PRS Custom 22 to go with my GG5, although it’s listed in the Classified.
They are killer instruments!!

Even though the PRS Santana is one of my favorites, The Bernie Marsden signature is now my #1 guitar, and yes I have a bunch.

Although PRS GG5 are very nice basses I’ve noticed a big increase in the prices for them!

I picked this one up in the classifieds recently and took it to rehearsal tonight. Really amazing bass from top to bottom.
