Mine was a little over $800. The Kingfishers and the Kestrels are about the same cost and are on the lower end of cost. Mine is probably the cheapest pictured at this point but don't translate that to quality loss, I'm VERY impressed with the build quality of mine. Plays like butter and SOOO responsive. I'm thinking my next may be a Kingfisher if I can get a finish I really like...

So, a PRS Club candidate am I!!

My beautiful 2015 GG5 Black Gold Wrap Burst 10-top!!
I know these come already setup out of the box, but I just lowered my action about 3/4 turn and this bass is even more amazing!!

I honestly believe these PRS basses and particularly the core Grainger basses are a well kept secret. I really don't understand why these basses are taking such a negative attack from folks who don't own one. And the PRS guitar is equally as fine and a high quality instrument. Both are very easy to play. I'm glad I got mine before the price increase!

I think that qualifies as a 6 string guitar, not a 6'er bass!

I have LaBella RX-N5D on my GG5 and I lowered the factory action by 3/4 turn and turned it more into a beast!!

I agree 100% with this. I see a lot of bashing due to price but people seem to miss how different these basses are in sound and construction. I could see if it was one of the zillion "Jazz basses on steroids" because there is so much competition for that type of bass. I don't think you can directly compare the GG basses to those basses because it has a really unique tonal footprint and a great variety of sounds. I am getting ready to sell my Fender Elite and Am. DLX basses to get a 5 string GG. Love them.

My Kestrel (neck thru, string thru) plays like butter and is super responsive. The neck kind of reminds me of the Ibanez SR necks. It's a little bit wider in width but the thickness from face of the fretboard to the back of the neck is the almost identical. So, I find it plays as fast as My SR necks. The Kingfisher is the same IMO. Hope that helps, I'd say more but I'm only familiar with the Kestrels and Kingfishers. ;)

My PRS Grainger 5 has the same neck dimensions as my Ken Smith Black Tiger 5'er and they both feel about the same, although the action on my Smith is much lower. If you are familiar with the Roscoe 5'er bass, then the Grainger 5 neck is slightly narrower. It is a fantastic playing bass with loads of available tones.
Sorry, I don't play 4 string basses and only have the Grainger 5, but I used to be a strictly Gibson guitar player until I first player my used PRS Custom 22. Now I hardly touch the Gibson. I suspect the PRS basses will make that kind of impression on some folks.
