My friend and neighbour who is Polish loves a dish from his country called "Miseria" , which translates predictably in English to "Misery". It consists of sliced cucumbers with salt , pepper, lemon juice, sour cream and fresh dill. It sounds delicious and we could only speculate that the reason it is called "misery" is because at some period of time in Polish history the only thing they had to eat was cucumbers ; No meat, no bread, and no beer or vodka. I cracked up though when he told me that one of his favorite national dishes was called "misery"......
