The Random Thought Megathread

Yesterday I read a joke:
The two things I cook best are meatloaf and peach cobbler.
Okay, which one is this.
Last night my wife and I were asked over to dinner at our neice's house. She cooked meatloaf and peach cobbler. It was hard to not tell that joke, even though the food was very good.

Can you summarize this and lead us to the final revelation?

I've tried and try to find football interesting but I just can't do it. They run a little bit and they stop and then they discuss and then they run a little bit more and then there are commercials.

Football provided the opportunity for my greatest-ever troll.

It was in the 70s, and I was a beleaguered, alienated middle school twerp, one at odds with all the jocks.

Time Magazine had a featured article asserting that football was little more than homoerotic war games with simian origin.

I wrote this article up for my report in health class, which was filled with football players, and read them the whole report with the teacher shushing throughout. It was truly glorious.

I'll end my tale here, and omit the sequence involving my futile attempt to escape after school. Nonetheless, they have yet to devise the trash can that can hold me.

My neice is not always on top of her game when it comes to cooking. I thought it funny that the joke about a lousy cook and the meal I was eating included the same two dishes. I don't think she would have appreciated my sense of humor had I told that joke. She seemed somewhat off put when I picked her up at the airport with a "welcome home from rehab" sign when she returned from vacation.

I have one in my garage. You must be properly prepared first though.

i think it's funny.

Why do vegetarians always like pretending to eat meat if they don't like it? Fake grill marks on their soy patties, etc... It's like they are ashamed and need to pretend to be real men and women who eat meat.

Sort of like a recovering alcoholic who knows booze is really bad for him, yet they drink their horrible tasting soy and seaweed smoothies out of a recycled Jack Daniels bottle to hopefully make it taste better.

I've been curious about this for a while now.

You dig a fairly decent size hole in an area that is dirt-only, and has been packed by motorized vehicles and/or foot traffic for years.

You carefully place the dirt on a piece of visqueen or plywood so as not to loose a morsel.

Yet, when you refill that very same hole, it seems there's never quite enough to fill it back entirely...shouldn't there be extra, or at least enough to bring it back to the same level as it was?

Does the dirt dry out, thus reducing the volume slightly?

Either that, or I'M drying out ever so slightly and confused removing dirt from a hole, with removing water from a hole and placing that on a sheet of plywood.

Am I missing something?
