Me neither.

Well, it looks like the PJs have been snapped up. Just when I was considering breaking out my fishing gear. Probably for the best.

It's my ambition to some day be like those crazy old ladies (but with Reverends instead of cats). :eyebrow:

I've even got a head start with the T-shirt and goofy expression:

AFAIK, there are five total varieties of Reverends which were made, though specs on some of the models changed at times.

Four string: JJ (vol/vol/tone), PJ (vol/vol/tone) and XL (vol/tone/switch -- series/parallel/single coil). The pickups oont the XL and JJ have the same spacing (wider apart than your 5L), but the control layout is different. From what I can tell, JJs are more common.

Five string: 5L (what you have -- though mine is an early one and has a control layout like the XL - vol/tone/3way switch), and the BH5, which has two JJ pickups, each with its own volume and three-way switch, along with a master tone knob.

And many thanks for the info. Now I've got a better idea what to be looking for next...

BTW do these basses have serial numbers? There's nothing obvious on mine or do I need to look in the control cavity or neck pocket?

Oh and I've never seen this mentioned in any discussion of these basses before, but I do like the way the body is cut away from the neck joint on the treble side to make fretting higher up the neck a little easier!

now why do I see a dbx paramentric, Read, Crest and DB 750 on top of that cab ? That place musta been bigger than I had though ...

Jerry brought the DB750 out so Eric could try it. At the time, I was just running it straight into the NV610, and the Read/Crest rack wasn't connected. I liked the sound of the DB and thought it held up quite well to the Read/Crest in comparison.

I sooooo want an NV.

BigRedX, the serial numbers for every Reverend I've seen are on the back of the headstock, often with the initials of the person who gave it the final go-over. Some of them have two serial numbers, one that is a real serial number (the Reverend number, which may or may not include guitars as well), and the second which identifies which number of that particular model it is. Here's the back of my 5L, serial #606. It was the one of the first 5-strings that they made, so it also says "R5L #8"). The initials on it are from Joe Naylor.

FWIW, I have mine strung with TI flats and it may well be the smoothest playing 5er I've ever tried. I liked it with rounds, too, but just had to go back to the flats.

Hey Bart - if the words crazy or hyper -active apply I can loan ya a Golden Retriever or Two!

How's about a helper cat! I will trade the cat for a bass, any bass - even the Squire! (A year ago - I'd a paid you to take him...) well maybe not - the little bugger is growing on me ... he and I are bonding - we spend a lot of time in the dog house together!

4Mal speaks the truth Bart....One of my Goldens (the one in the photo)was in training to be a helper and flunked out due to his "exuberance"....he's a great family pet though...he runs around like a rat on crack for 15 hours a day and drops at 9pm....

Petch...who said cats liked fish...looks like dogs do too...I'll remember that the next time I let the dogs into my music room...

Thanks for the serial number info.

However there's nothing on mine at all or any sign that there ever was...

Is that just permanent markered onto the finish or underneath the cleear-coat?
