Wow, that's tough, Matrok. Hate to hear that.

A friend of mine who is a fellow TBer who has a local cover gig and had not heard a Reverend in the mix. He was wondering what all the fuss was about with Reverends and our "kool-aid." So I brought out my PJ last night and sat in on a couple tunes. There were a few other TBers there and quite a few positive comments about the tone. My friend was playing a Drozd, so it was definitely a big contrast.

Sounded freakin' huge and meaty through the DB750/NV610 rig he was running, IMO. :D

After much soul searching and conferring with my wife(she loves this bass most of all), I have decided to keep it until I can find another Lava, or find a doc who can fix me so I can play it again. Sorry for any ruckus I have caused or hopes dashed.

Back to our thread.

And congrats to MaddAnthony for scoring the orange PJ. I hate you! :spit:

and thank goodness he did - you have no idea how close I was to pm'ing you.

Well guess I can't just drop in a stir up trouble here anymore - is there a Reverend Owner - Emeritus status in this club ?

(Bartman, Atrapp and Aribitrary are probably already making side bet's on how long it will take me to start parking in front of Bart's place with the lights off ... Bart being sort of the Reverend epicenter of the Northwest and all ...)

I'll put a foam sleeve on the baseball bat so you don't get it too bad, Mal.

I probably darn near owned that gem myself but foolishly helped talk Mal out of selling it to me when I thought it was just temporary insanity. Then Knifemaker put the white/maple PJ up for sale and I just couldn't resist. Nice score, MA. Glad to see it's staying with someone who will appreciate it.

Matrok: Have you tried wearing your 5L a little higher up on the strap or with the headstock at more of an angle? You might be able to rig something up that was more comfortable if you play around with things.

I'll have to post it there! I was on Channel 7 News Halloween 2006 in that get up. I have a fire pit in the backyard, and me and that Big Goofy dawg were dancing around the fire when the 7-News van drove by. A few minutes later the helicopter Swooped in, and I had my 15 seconds of glory!

Yeah, I'd LOVE to get together sometime. Let's wait for the temp to get above 40 first.:cool:

After over a year of GASing for a 'fish I finally found one in the UK.

And very nice it is too. I can certainly see (and hear) what all the fuss is about now!

While I'm here can someone please explain the different pickup/control options. I've seen two different JJ configurations, one like mine and another with the pickups further apart which I've only seen on the 4-string versions. Also there's the PJ (4-string only?) and the Brad Houser (5-string only?).

Anyway this will keep me going until I can find either a Brad Houser or another 5-string in either bugeye or one of the other 'metallic' finishes.

Nice bass, BigRedx!!!

AFAIK, there are five total varieties of Reverends which were made, though specs on some of the models changed at times.

Four string: JJ (vol/vol/tone), PJ (vol/vol/tone) and XL (vol/tone/switch -- series/parallel/single coil). The pickups oont the XL and JJ have the same spacing (wider apart than your 5L), but the control layout is different. From what I can tell, JJs are more common.

Five string: 5L (what you have -- though mine is an early one and has a control layout like the XL - vol/tone/3way switch), and the BH5, which has two JJ pickups, each with its own volume and three-way switch, along with a master tone knob.
