Whoa.....wait a sec. Even 5 years ago, $400 for a used fish was a great deal, despite that a brand new one direct from Rev could be ordered for $700-800.
At this point in time, I don't think the original list price has anything to do with the "actual" value of fishes.
Try convincing someone selling their early '62 RI Jazz, that it's only worth a couple hundred, 'cos the original list price was around $500. Not a perfect analogy, but still...
Fishes are what they are, and supply is extremely limited (sadly).
The situation is made worse by the fact that some of you clowns insist on hoarding the damn things!

So what do you figure the realistic street price of a PJ 'fish is today ?

I personally think a JJ4 ought to be worth about $650 w/case-bag, a P/J ought to go for about $750, a 5L somewhere inbetween based on condition and finish, and a BH5 in the $850 range.
But, that's just me.
The BABP LE is a nice bass, but was more than I cared to spend.

Hey guys,I'm thinking of trading my 5502 for the Reverand 5L in the classifieds.I just got the 5502 and it doesn't seem to have the kind of cutting tone I like,it's kind of smooth.I like a good Jazz type tone and was wondering if any of you guys have gone through the same thing with the Laklands.I've been interested in the Reverands since they came out and thought it might make a good bass for the blues.

Moving forward...I agree with the previous posters, that an import fish RI would not likely affect the ever-rising values of the now-defunct USA fishes.
Fishes have been around now, for what.....about a decade? You think prices are silly now? Just wait til the vintage guitar dealers cast a lustful eye on Reverend Instruments (if they have'nt already).

Again, I would bet my arse that an import version would boost the value of the USA ones. I've seen a very similar situation happen in the knife industry many times. If people like the import version, many will be HOT after an original!!
I had a 4402 and for my money - the Bart's are worthless except in a smooth jazz kind of environment - I replaced the humbucker with a Nordstrand 4.2 Alnico - their copy of the original Stingray pickup and that madea world of difference.
My 44-02 took a little setup work to get it there but it was a highly playable instrument. Really comfy. Ultimately I was going to have to gut the electronics and also replace the neck pickup. I came to my senses and swapped it.
In the case of the 5L. I don't like 5 string basses - they make me nutz. Except for 2. Arbitrary's Drozd strung E through C - which is as close to a wet dream as an inanimate object could be... so that one and Batrman's 5L. Bart's 5L has the nicest 5 string neck I've ever touched. It is just sooo comforable. I picked is up and started playigng swing lines and - didn't get lost a 4th down. A unique experience for me I can assure you. You gotta line on a 5L - and you're doing a blues band ? just get it done - don't think twice...
I tend to agree with that. I'm suprised that they haven't taken that plunge yet. I have to belive that it's a matter of time.
Having said that - I don't know the manufacturing process for the 'spider'. I assume it's a roto-mold or injectinon process of some kind. If that is the case - they already owned the tooling - ship it to Korea and get the line back together. I'm sure that Cort/Samick or whoever could do a nice job on the neck's ... now if they don't actually still have the tooling ... then all bet's are off.

I long ago called dibs on 4mal's orange fish, but I don't think he'll ever sell it. If he does sell it, I'll make a personal pilgrimage to his doorstep to beg him to sell it to me. I know where he lives . . . <searches in vain for pleading smiley>FWIW 4mal, I heard arbitrary playing his Drozd and his Ritter back-to-back this weekend, and thought the Drozd had a better tone. Not quite as cutting or hi-fi as the Ritter, but definitely had more balls and sounded more like (IMO) a bass should.
Of course, in terms of "cojones," I'd put my BH5 up against all comers. That thing is the John Holmes of tone.

I tried, but the listing was pulled without any response to my emails from the seller. I also had a friend that was trying for it at the same time. I have no idea if it sold or to whom.
Not to derail the Reverend talk but have any of you guys played a Yamaha SBV?? There's one for sale down below right now. IMHO, they are the closest thing to a Rumblefish 4 that I've ever played. Very light, similar neck, odd body shape and HOT pickups. I regret selling the one I had, I'd like to find an older one on the Japanese websites. Cool basses.
so i mentioned early that my buddies endorsed by Reverend, well he got his guitar today from the owner (who flew out to deliver it, really class act) and he said REVEREND IS GOING TO MAKE BASSES AGAIN. Yep. The dude said they are going to be different than the ones they used to make, and they'll be Korean Made, and they'll be using different woods and a different body design as well.
That's all he could tell me, no date was given for when, but the owner said they are going to make them again.
