I actually have a gold JJ PG in addition to the silver one here at the house. It's the original one that went with the bass, actually. But my pickup covers are black. That actually makes a big difference in how much I like the gold, actually, which works MUCH better with the white PG covers, like yours and my old 5L, Thumpy.

I like the idea of B/W/B, but the same caveat applies w/respect to the PG covers. I'd like the B/W/B idea a lot better if I had white pickups. With the black on black the pickups kinda disappear. I like seeing the slanted pickups.

I'm leaning towards doing keeping the look as-is and going with the w/b/w. It's kind of classy, esp. with the maple IMO.

There are two main reasons I kept the white PJ instead of the XL:

1) maple FB. I just can't see the RW-board side dots well in the dark venues we play. That's huge for me.
2) it transforms from JJ/PJ. If I get tired of it as an XL, I can switch it back to a PJ, and slap some flats or something on it. :bassist:

But the red XL was sweet. :(

FWIW, I realized I was tracking three fish today, all being reeled in by new owners -- vroc38's 5L arrived today, despite me only shipping it yesterday. :bassist: Maybe he'll poke his head in here -- it's his first fish and he's never tried one. :) It was my first fish, too, bought "blind" several years ago when I'd never tried a Reverend. Within two weeks of getting it, I was looking for a BH5. :p TheLarch's XL should hit his doorstep soon, and Chef's BH5 is due on Thursday.

Lotta fish swimming in the pond right now. Hope everyone likes their catch! :cool:

It is kinda sad seeing only two b/w teardrop cases downstairs though. I used to have a whole bunch of 'em. :(

how difficult is it to convert from JJ to PJ? I might be tempted to pick up that JJ at the Low End if it's not too difficult. although I do think it's a bit overpriced. If I had the cash when the PJ was there I think I would have moved on it.

It's not easy, but I have all the parts (two sets of original Reverend pickups and PGs). Mine was also drilled for both sets, but I'm not sure if the top is cut out any differently from a regular JJ or not. I think the JJs probably have room with the top cutout to mount a PJ set and drilling mounting holes for the new pickups would be easy, but you'd have to find a set of pickups. I think the J in my PJ is humcancelling or somehow different from a regular single coil J, as the extra set of pickups to convert it to JJ has both J pickups, not just one. If there wasn't enough room in the top cutout to fit a PJ, then you'd have to cut the top, which would be VERY risky, IMO.

I'm thinking of getting quick connects put on it and maybe even a whole other wiring harness made. Then switching out would need no soldering, and if I had a second harness, I could just swap out the whole PG/harness assembly when I was trading out pickups. If I did that, then a changeover would just involve unscrewing and screwing in PGs and pickups, which wouldn't take long at all.

It depends. I was going to that in the past and ran into the cutout for the top pickup not being wide enough for the P pickup on the JJ 'Fish I was going to convert. Rather than hack into it (I have no router and no router skills) I passed on doing the conversion.

The one that I could not convert had a skunk stripe neck. So my guess is that the older 'Fish, from before the introduction of the PJ, did not have a wider neck slot/route. I would guess if a 'Fish is from the skunk stripe era most likely it's not going to be convertable without some work. If no skunk stripe neck, then maybe.

I would think that other than the potential complication of an aluminum top (as I said, no router experience/skill/knowledge) modifying a "narrow upper slot" JJ 'Fish to widen the slot to allow the P pickup in there should be about as easy as routing modifications go - it's not a precision route in my PJ, just a wide-enough slot.

Good observations I'll keep that in mind when browsing Fish in the future. (Fish in the Future would be an awesome band name.)

Fedex is so speedy and affordable. I have found that they generally beat UPS in both speed and price. I definitely choose them for all my shipping needs.

Yeah, I think mine was ordered that way. What I don't know is if that entailed a different (PJ) cutout on the top laminate. I haven't seen the inside of a JJ so I can't really guess.

So the BH5 arrives today, eh? Kinda screws up my plan to taunt you all day with Lava Houser porn. ;)

Oh well.
