They have only been around about 6 months now right? I think you are an early adopter. I don't think anyone has a bee in their bonnet towards you.... its just that there might not be that many folks who can comment about the pickups right now.

Daktari's right. There's no prejudice here against non-contributing members. Heck, I was one for almost a year until I re-upped recently. I think no one has responded to your question because there are very few Dub King owners out there. Maybe kenkell will reply, he has one.
I can tell you that I love the way the bridge humbucker sounds on my Mercalli 5, but that doesn't really help you with the Dub King.
Calexia13 - I was tracking a Justice at my local store for a while. The Dub King is not my style (and the store doesn't have one), so I couldn't add anything. Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it!
I'm not going to buy the Justice (though I came close). I'm looking for a j-sounding bass that's a bit "different". My "problem" is that I actually got a bump up in my budget (I don't buy very often, and isn't that a nice problem to have!), so I'm going for something else. While I have no complaints about the Justice, I've played other basses whose neck feel I like much more. I also think the price is a bit higher than I'd like to see.
My local store sold the Mercali they had before I started looking around. I'd love to try one just to see how it feels and sounds.

Yeah - I saw that. What is the neck like on those Rumble Js? Is it like a Fender J, or like a Geddy Lee (smaller) or what? that was very intriguing....
It's like a Fender J, but even more comfortable because of the rolled edges. Definitely more substantial than a Geddy Lee neck.
I just sold Rumblefish #47, the last of my 4-strings. I had three of the first 100 at one time. Fantastic basses, just one too few strings for me anymore.
Hey folks! just thought I should mention my mahogany BH5 is no longer mohogany.... it's flamed maple. I replaced the cracked front laminate (and back) with solid wood. Also added a nordy pre while i was working on it.
it's kind of a bummer because the bass is no longer all original, but after I cracked it, the repair had to be done regardless so i thought "awe what the heck"
It's also my only bass, so I needed to do something about it right away. It turned out really good and I'm stoked about it's updated look, feel and tone.

I have one with the tuners replaced with Hipshot Ultralights. Wouldn't dream of changing out the pickups. I never solo the MM bridge pickup, but it adds a wonderful bit of definition and punch to the fat split brick neck PUP.
I have gotten used to getting compliments on the sound from other bass players, and my band loves it, too.
Unfortunately, if you are looking for a sound that the DK doesn't seem to supply (my guitarist's Ashdown 2x10 bass rig isn't a great match for the DK, and it has much more power than 30W) even $120 would be too much to pay (but I'd buy a few more!).
I'm diggin' it. I need to spend a little more time getting it set up.. it arrived with a dead-straight neck and very low action. It plays great, though. Tone-wise, the rear pickup does an awesome J-bass impersonation, which I was psyched about because my main bass is a Fender Precision. But my bandmates don't like the Jazz tone for our sound, so I've been playing it as a P-bass, which it also does very well.
As far as the tuners, everyone says to change them out for Hipshot Ultralites, but I haven't had any problems so far and I like the sound.
I didn't change the tuners out on my Dub King for sonic reasons - just to reduce head-dive (I had some serious balance problems with mine, others report that they don't - go figure). For that it worked well. The effect on the sound was (to my ears), very subtle, but positive - maybe. I didn't/couldn't do a meaningful comparison. Memory is not good for comparing two sounds.

There were several comments earlier in the thread, including one from the esteemed Brad Houser, saying Hipshot Ultralites "opened up" the sound of the Mercalli. That had me thinking about making the change. But, I'm satisfied with how my bass sounds and, from what I gather, swapping the tuners would involve drilling out the holes very slightly, which I don't even want to attempt.
That refinished BH5 is BEAUTIFUL! Great work man.

I've always played rounds, until two years ago when I put chromes on my 5L. Absolutely loved it. Restrung my Mercalli over the weekend, but I bought rounds. For some reason, just didn't want to try flats. Am I strange?

Now it's get interesting....When I first got the Mercalli, I hated the strings. It just seemed to disappear on stage compared to my 5L with flats. I had some fairly new Daddario rounds that I had on my 5L before i tried chromes, so I threw those on. Sounded awesome. So, 6 months later, many gigs, I figure it's time for a new set of rounds. I get the same kind, and once again, it just seems to disappear onstage.
So we played a 3 day weekend gig in St. Louis 2 weeks ago. Down time all day Saturday. I decide to swap out the chromes that were on the 5L with the Mercalli, and the magic returned! Sounded big and phat, and cut through like a hot knife through butter.
It sounded nothing like a Rick or Geddy with the rounds. It's got an aggressive bite as well as a huge bottom. It'd be closer to a jazz than a Rick, just with a lot more oomph. Jazzes are more neutral sounding to me, while this wants to be noticed.
As far as the strings issues go, I'm starting to think it has more to do with the band. It sounded great by itself...But I'm in a rock/polka band. I have a keyboard pretty much doubling me at all times, as well as a guitar doubling 3/4 of the times. There's a big wall of rhythm going on there, and flats seem to be the best fit.
I think I will try some TI's though.
