Stock Pups actually(stacked J's) with the Nordy pre added. I made multiple pick guards so I can switch the electronics back to all stock or what I'm using now... Villex soapbars with the Nordy pre.
Shortly after I cracked the mahogany laminate top on my BH5... I started a brief search for another one and pursued my repair options etc. I found a faux flamed maple BH5 (only 4 of them made) on craigslist and I just missed it! In a way, that loss kind of spawned this real wood idea. I had the flamed maple blank sitting in my wood collection for about 7 years, thought the time was right to put it to use
. Then, I stared playing around with the electronics. After having done this work myself... I have a real personal connection with this bass. It's different, but still a great instrument IMO.
Not long after they stopped making Rev basses the 1st time, I snagged an RL5 at a local GC. Some time later, I wasn't playing my 5's at all for a stretch. I made the stoopid decision of selling - regret and self-loathing soon followed.
Had the opportunity to grab a BH5 about 15 months ago, one of the best investments I've made in a while. I can't see myself selling it ever.
The 35" scale and 19mm string spacing make for a wide neck with room to stretch out your fingers!

That's what I like about the BH5... the standard string spacing and 35" scale. I could do 34" but hey, this bass has the nicest sounding open strings of any bass I've owned

I agree wholeheartedly, and she really sings with Chrome Flats strapped on. Also one of the few basses I have owned where changing out the pickups and/or preamp has never crossed my mind.

I get your point about not changing pickups or adding (which is what you mean?) a preamp. It's one of those basses that just doesn't need improvment.
Despite that BH has said that he would have prefered a 34" scale, in retrospect. (at least I think he said that) I dig the big wide neck, it makes me play more deliberately, less temptation to overplay.

I'm a little out of the loop on the newer basses. Do the have similar necks, profiles as the originals?
Who retrofitted the mercalli neck Chef? BH? .. And onto what body?
