I'd like to add a drop D tuner to my Mercalli 4, does anyone know what the stock tuners are? Tried a search here and couldn't find anything. The ideal would be just to replace the E tuner, but I can do all 4 if nothing matches.
Based on serial number 52777, looks like 2022. Here's a photo of the tuners, they look like hipshot ultralites but not sure what model drop tuner would match.
This are HS licensed. Probably one of these depending on the width of the holes. It should be 1/2" but you should measure.

Reverend has the tuning machine diameter listed on the page for the bass. It is 1/2". You'd want this one:

Thanks for that, @ericplaysbass - I'm not great at using the search function within a subforum, so was not successful. I appreciate your post! I will contact Hipshot and see if they have one that matches the tuner design though - if you look at the photos of my bass and the drop tuner that you posted, they are different styles.
EDIT - never mind, I see that Hipshot lists the different tuner head styles in a drop-down menu.

Your tuners are Hipshot licensed ultralights.
So on a whim, took my ol squier vm jazz V on a gig. At home it's a fun bass, and it was my main axe for many years. But after a couple songs I was really missing my rev haha. No point to this other than I really like my mercalli. hope y'all are having a good day
I feel the same every time I play my Stingray 5, I miss my mercalli. The Ray with the multicoils sounds better though.
I keep feeling I want to drop in new electronics in the Mercalli, but then I come to my senses because it would be a shame to mod a 2012 Mercalli. I'll have to buy a newer Mercalli 5 to mod.

I know exactly how you feel. I sold my 4 string Mercalli because I needed a 5 string and I ended going through several different basses before I ended up with my Mercalli 5. It was the only bass I have ever regretted selling.
ok so now I'm torn. Was watching an old video (from last year) on my jazz, and I'm loving the tone on the video. I've also noticed on the mercalli that if I dig in I can get a wolfy tone way too easily, almost like I? have to play with a very light touch whereas on my jazz I can dig in more.
How can I tame the beast? haha. I'm probably due for a setup, I guess lowering the pickups could help, but wondering if I just need more compression or something? Here I am overthinking things again lol

Get yourself a used Justice and set it up how you like it. There's a post in this thread about a week ago with a little sound clip of mine at a gig. It's a good demonstration of a thick, clean-ish j bass tone that is very prominent in the mix.
I had to lower the neck pickup to avoid making contact with the strings when I dug in. It's held up great for a couple of years and a few dozen gigs.
I'm having an issue where my Mercalli is sounding mushy. Probably because I'm comparing it to my WAL-ray.
The dip in volume when both pickups are at full (center blend) is making me think the bricks are out of phase with each other.
I've heard this complaint before. Any validation?
