Welcome to the club!! I’m sure you’ll enjoy many years with the Mercalli. I had a Mercalli 4 and sold it when I got my Mercalli 5. I wish I hadn’t and I’m still kicking myself. I got myself a Thundergun but I’m still missing that Mercalli 4!!! Love the pearloid pg on the alpine green with the rosewood board. Congrats amigo 👍

I wonder if anybody has any insight into how Sweetwater deals with Reverend. I’ve bought all of my Reverends through SW because I get to choose the weight and get a pretty decent visual inspection of the actual instrument. I noticed that SW aren’t stocking the new Decision P colors but they’re available to order. Not sure if this is because they still have stock of the Periwinkle and maybe they will stock the new colors when the old stock is depleted. They do have the white sentinel, obviously a popular model. They don’t stock the new Meshel but it’s available to order and don’t have stock of the old Meshel either. I also noticed that the alpine Mercalli 4 is listed as no longer available yet it’s still current on Reverends website. Maybe we will see some new Mercalli finishes in the near future?

I've often wondered the same thing about retailers in general -- Sweetwater, GC and its affiliate companies, etc. I guess they stock the items they think will sell the most. Or maybe it comes from Reverend. Perhaps they distribute the models they want to distribute, for some reason unknown to me. I imagine somebody here has some insight into this. I think a few TBers have worked for instrument retailers.

Makes sense John. I can’t imagine retailers want to be stuck with old stock that they would end up selling at a reduced price. It still amazes me that Reverend aren’t a whole lot more popular. Roughly half the price of a US Fender equivalent but in my opinion much better quality. Long live Reverend!

Hello fellow Reverendites!

I don’t think I’m an official member of this club yet but I definitely should be! The guys at Reverend kindly gave us a Wattplower 2 (after Mike Watt bounced various ideas off me for the v2) back in 2020. So that’s been our short-scale demo bass, and the longer we have it the more I like it. Watt himself borrowed it on his recent UK tour!

And with the rest of the demo bass fleet we’ve been fairly well equipped with typical instruments from various brands but we had a dearth of demo guitars. Fast forward a few years and we now have five (5!) Reverend guitars and they’re all fantastic.

Anyway, I’ve been getting an itch about getting a nice P for myself - we have one with heavy flats that does the Motown etc thing and a v cheap one with rounds that is ok but not that inspiring (and dives so bad). And then I get their pre-release email about the new look for the Meshell bass and I love it, I love her playing and her vibe and then I come up with a cunning way of “testing” it.

Long story short, I’ve ordered one and it should be here soon. I’m very very very excited!

Very nice! So that’s their (discontinued) take on a Jazz Bass?

The demo instrument thing here has always been a bit of a puzzle because although our customers have a wide range of basses we have a LOT of Barefaced owners with super nice super expensive instruments, from the most boutique custom Alembics to vintage Fenders worth more than a car - and we’re so far from having the money to have a that kind of arsenal!

The Wattplower was so nice that when we needed a Telecaster we were thrilled to see Reverend make one (Eastsider T). And after that we added a triple P90 (Jetstream 390) and a baritone (Descent RA). And when we wanted a better Les Paul and a nice Strat we got a Roundhouse and Gristle ST (not a SuperStrat but a SUPER Strat!)

My ramblings on the Fellowship “testing” are over here: Downtuning changes your tone way more than you realise (and is a great way to try a short scale bass without spending any money!)

Quite a fascinating learning!

@alexclaber I have taken many of your ramblings to heart, for example I agree that our cabinets are critical because it is the piece of kit that actually makes sound (which justifies the investment in Barefaced :D).

I have always been a j-bass player and liked the look of Reverend basses so took a chance on the Justice and really like it. Great match with the depth and detail from the Super Twin!

As you can see from my setup, I put a lot of stock in getting good “bang for the buck”. And if my bass sounds bad, believe me I will know, because the ST puts me right out there in the mix.
