My Mercalli 5 (20th) is 1 1/2-2 pounds lighter than my EBMM 5er.

I play my merc 100% neck pickup until it's solo time, when I roll to 100% bridge pickup.

I don't consider the Mercalli to be a particularly versatile instrument- as it is all just really beefy sounding. I love it.

If you want to deal constantly with people showing interest in your bass- get a brightly coloured Mercalli!

Oh and all the talk about build quality around here is pretty much of no value.

My current EBMM bass is constantly giving me grief. And I know they are an exceptional company.

Basses are made of WOOD AND METAL.

These materials react to their environment.

Did you ever wonder what happened to the Bass Player sample of the 2003 Reverend Rumblefish PJ? A couple of days ago (May 25, 2018) it was at the Dinosaur BBQ (Syracuse) Boneyard with I am Fool. Still rocking (with the same set of Chromes I put on it when I got it back then, and hipshot tuners; otherwise, stock).​

I love my PJ, would love to score another USA to put chromes on, maybe an XL for variety. Just don't see them swimming free anymore.

While I loves me some Mercalli, I wouldn't mind s little piece of this justice bass. Mmmm.

I think the colour may have been discontinued?

I emailed Reverend some time ago and suggested they release a 5 string version of this bass in either this Lakeshore Gold color or the Chronic Blue color. It would also be great to see a 5 string Decision Bass in Oceanside Green.

I would love a ressurection of the rumblefish- with koruna body and hipshot hardware.

Yep, foam mute...not the prettiest use of a mute, but ya work with what ya got!

I wonder how one of those basses would look with a bridge cover? Hide the mute better.

Check out BassMute.com I have one that I installed a while back on my Tuxedo BH5. It has 3 settings. 1 Just touching the strings. 2 Firmly muting. 3 Open non muting.

It works as advertised. Actually it works great. Just make sure you get the best thin industrial strength double sided tape that you can find. If you're really interested send him an email and ask about availability.

Yep, nice looking bass...I already have two of those, not 20th anniversary though, mine are Rock orange with a rosewood fretboard & Turquoise with a maple fretboard.

I went with the Thundergun. Local shop had one hanging up. Ten minutes in my hands and I knew I wasn't leaving without it.

Yes. I'm stuck on the sound that brought me to play bass guitar 'way back when, in the 60s, and putting some damping (foam) under the strings was standard practice. All my 4-strings have it. My Lakland 5 doesn't, but it is active with round-wound strings and consequently has a 'modern' sound. I don't use it as much as my Reverends.

PS: That is the actual bass, the review sample, that got reviewed by Bass Player, not just the same model/color. JN sold it to me at a discount (it wasn't new) and threw in a gig bag, strap and some other poopie I don't remember. I'll die grateful for that... Still my main bass, and I still explain it's why I'm called Reverend Ken.

So I'll get the Mercalli 5 FM, which practically the same one w/o the pickguard, and seals.

I was on vacation in NYC and stopped in Rudy's Music. I played the Wattplower and Decision models. I was so impressed with them (especially when considering the price). The Wattplower was not for me really being short scale, but it must have only been 5#. The Decision really blew me away. Great tone, and the roasted neck was just so comfortable. Quite honestly, the bass feels extremely boutique. If I would not have bought some cabinets, it would be on its way to me.

This started with Fender gluing some rubber to the inside of the Precision bridge cover. It actually wasn't very effective. But it showed up in the recordings, and when players took it off, recording engineers could hear the difference. I first heard about it from Carol Kaye in 1970 (had a brief correspondence with her, her mail address was in the back of her self-published instructional books). She said every bass player had their own kind of muting, but they all used it - she used sponges, other things. There are a few products for purchase that are cosmetically nicer, and I've seen a scrunchy at the nut used, but I have a sheet of black high-density foam that I cut and fold and it's just right for me.
