The flame maple top really is an awesome match for that body shape IMO.
How does the Front P pickup of the Mercalli compare to the Cutlass hanging on the wall?

Yeah, the flamed maple is absolutely gorgeous (for a bass at this price level). Finishing is top notch, weight and balance are excellent. And the neck, oh that neck, is almost comparable to the Cutlass in terms of finishing, fretwork and feel!
ah ah Eagle Eye!!! well these are two different beasts. The Cutlass is much more aggressive, and sharp with a massive output, I'd say excellent for Rock, covers. The Mercalli is much more gentle, Jazzier than the Cutlass. With the Mercalli, P pickup full on and tone rolled off all the way, you can almost simulate a OC-2 Sub octave, which is awesome. And of course tamed with the MM-style pickup, and you've got a different bass.
The Cutlass was kind of an accident. I was on sale at my LGS, tried it and I was sold.
And it made me realize that I'm much more comfortable with a big, chunky neck (nut width=42mm) than 38-40mm width. No more muscles cramps in the palm of the hand.
From this point, for me it's either 5 strings or 42mm, and BTW, I think that all the 4 strings Reverend Basses are 42 mm at the nut, at least the Thunderguns and the Mercalli 4.

I have the exact same bass....not only do I love playing it; I just love to look at it--a real work of art, in my estimation...don't think I've ever gotten such a bang out of staring at one of my basses....
I'm a G&L guy overall, but that Mercalli has made me expand my horizons.
Glad to see that Reverend's popularity is making its way around the globe...they really deserve it!

Reverend Guitars is indeed a great company that make awesome and outstanding basses and guitars.
Wish some guitar designs would be ported to basses.
As for the G&L matter, this one is for you. It was "love at the first sight" [I'm a sucker at the Fiesta (Fullerton) red color].
Another, very well built one but 2k NIS more than the Mercalli.
Very different basses, so no overlapping functions, lucky me.

Is the Kiloton as aggressive as it's name suggests?
Now if they would just start offering matching headstocks again! I imagine the blue with a matching headstock.
I played a few acoustically (time constraints) in a local music store the other day. I have to say I like the looks of their basses and they played nicely as well. What would you say they sound comparable to or do they have a sound all their own??
I'll tell you what...mine sounds remarkably like my L2000.
35-year-old flats on the Thundergun, GHS black tapewounds on my L2000.
I feel the same.
Matching headstock, or maple fretboard for the 4-string, and one would be sitting next to my Thundergun.
The split brick PU in my Mercalli is the best Precision sound I've heard in a 5er. I'm not a fan of the bridge PU in any bass so I won't speak on that one.
