Strung my Merc with a set of DR Fat Beams for this weekend. Very impressed with the tone. First time using DRs as they tend to be a little pricey here in the UK. BIG sound.
Tried a slightly different EQ for this gig, with a slight bump to low and hi mids and the treble. This thing sounded class!

I'm using Fat Beams on my Mercalli 5 and loving it. They are my favorite strings I've tried on the Mercalli to date. I'm also running a very slight boost in low and high mids as well as a little bit larger boost in treble. Sounds like I'm running it really close to what you are.
It's spelled Fatfish. With Labella Low Tension flats. Perfect strings for this bad boy
Hello everybody! I will be joining this club presently. Actually, I will most likely hit the 'pay now' button on Tuesday (after Memorial Day); but I am still a tiny bit up in the air, and was hoping some of the fine folks in this club could help nudge me in the right direction ....
I am 97% sold on the Purple Triad because:
1) Blocks and no binding! super sexy
2) Purple! Always wanted a purple bass
3) Interesting tonal options with the 5 way switch; possibility to upgrade to a 7 way switch in the future (2 extra positions for all 3 pickups, and neck and bridge pickup only)
Those are really the only factors that put it ahead of the other 2 I am thinking about, the Mercalli or Decision (not Decision P). Obviously the necks are the reason I am looking at those 3 basses. Thundergun and Fellowship both seem really cool, but they have painted necks, and I am all about that roasted maple neck.
I am not able to play any of these before buying, and will probably buy new (especially in the case of the Triad; I haven't seen any used for sale yet). I like to play mainly Classic and Hard Rock (think Black Sabbath, Clutch, etc) but am not presently in a band.
All of these are right around $1000 new, but there is one new Decision (in Party Red) for $750.
Should I just go ahead and buy the Triad? Save money, and get the Decision? Or maybe a Mercalli is a better choice for the music I like?
Any and all opinions welcome, thanks.

Go for the purple! (I have no idea really except to trust your instinct - I don't yet own a Reverend but watching closely...)
I really like the triad. Tried it a couple of times and I've been impressed. I will say it's kind of it's own thing though. The jazz bombs sound great but don't sound like traditional jazz pickups. Much bigger and thicker. Which isn't a bad thing but don't go into it thinking it's a super jazz bass. It's got it's own voice. Well 5 voices
Yeah, everything I have read and some sound clips I heard have made it clear that this is not really a Jazz bass. Still, I think it's probably what I am going to end up with. Too much awesomeness for me to ignore ....

Ha,Ha,Ha, Oh the Great conundrum, I feel for ya brother. I own three Reverands, a Decision, a Thundergun and a Rumblefish, they are all build great, play great and sound great with any kind of rock and more. Whichever Reverend you get, you will really love it! Go with your instincts brother, go with the instincts! Heck I have three now and want one of each, my next Reverend will be a purple Triad, I love the diversity of the three pick ups. I have a custom 51 P bass with three single coils and a five way switch and love it. Don't stress brother, just pick the one that feels right and play the piss out of it, you can't go wrong!!! Only my humble opinion, just one man!
What pickups do you have in that bass? I've been really interested in 51 style p basses recently.
All three are Seymour Duncan, N and M are hot's and the bridge is a 1/4 pounder.

Go for the Triad! If you're 97% sure, you'll regret getting the Decision. Ha, no pun intended!
As far as strings? There a 40% chance they're S.I.T. If we have to change them when we set them up, that's what we put on. Nobody really knows what they have from the factory. The reasoning is the first thing most people do is change strings when they get them home, so we don't change strings on every bass.
I'm all about a 7 way switch. I have no idea why we didn't design it that way in the first place. The original prototype just had three volume knobs. My suggestion was if they stuck with that, it needs a master volume as well. Or a kill switch. I also said 3 off/on switches would've been cool as well.
I had a big al bass for a time that had 3 off/on switches for the pickups and it worked really well. Made changes super easy and intuitive.

I'm thinking about picking up a fat fish 32 sometime soon. I tried it at a local shop and was really really impressed. I thought I would prefer the triad but the fat fish kind of blew me away. It's definitely big and full sounding but can get more aggressive than I thought possible.
The only thing stopping me from getting one is the thought of the updated version that might be coming out with a thick brick at the neck. Decisions, decisions....

Not that I'm biased, but the Fatfish just rules. I got it for all the same reasons and it feels great too. The 32" scale is the bomb!

Any of those ideas would lift the Triad to another level. Not that a 5-way switch doesn't work well enough, but any system that would allow more pickup blending choices would seem to take fuller advantage of a three pickup bass.
That is why there are so many choices in life, everyone likes something different, the only bad decision is if you don't buy what you really want. Congratulations on ordering the purple Triad, enjoy it!
That's why I pulled the trigger on the Fatfish, it spoke to me and is quickly becoming my go to. It's only money, be happy!
