Awesome fish duo Anthony! What type of strings do you use?

I haven't changed them yet. The R5L has the Original Reverend strings on her, and "Rumblefish" John said he has RotoSounds on the 4-String.

Any recomendations? I have no brand loyalty, buy whatever is on sale, and actually BREAK a lot of strings due to my Viscious Attack. (try playing 240 - 360 BPM with your fingers, and be Gentle about it!) Actually, I used to play as close to the bridge as I could get, because the string moves less there, and I could get a more stable surface to attack. But I've moved to the Bridge pickup about 6 months ago, and have yet to break a string. I can still play at about 90 - 95% speed. Plus Smashbandits have disbanded, and The Fury plays at a more "Normal" rate of fire...

Now I need 2 more Rumble fish. You guessed it, a Red Fish , and a Blue Fish !

I've been using Ernie Ball Slinkys on my 'Fishes since 1999. I play very aggressively, too, and I think those strings are a great match for the bass. If you're doing any down-tuning, there's a La Bella set made specifically to be tuned DGCF. They feel and sound great.

Nice looking 5-string Reverend just popped up on ebay -- $650 to start, $725 BIN. It's faux wood topped, with a gold PG and rosewood board. Looks pretty cool, IMO.

I've decided that my R5L is a REALLY special bass. It just feels perfect.

Someone here may want to snap this one up.

Strangely the 5's don't move as quick. Not sure why, but that will be a good buy for someone. Unique finish, not my cup of tea though.

I agree, the faux-fancy wood thing doesn't seem quite right for a Reverend. The vibe of the bass almost demands solid colors or wackier-type finishes like the bugeye or lava swirl.

exactly.
to me, that's still about $100 high for no case/bag/5 string...but, the market is what it is, and i'm likely to be wrong again

I haven't tuned my Fishies down. With a 5er I leave it in standard tuning, and just use the B-String to cover the C# tuning required for Sabbath, etc...I haven't tried the Reverend on Sabbath songs yet. Almost seems "Irreverent"! But I'll look into the La Bella's form ny Rudy Sarzo. I've used EB Slinky's in the past. I'll try stringing up a set on my next change.

Oh! I got the Skinny on my new 4-String. It is the 18th Rumblefish made. Joey started the Basses at 01000. Mine is 01018...Very Early fish indeed! The drummer I play in The Fury with grew up with Joey Naylor, and he told Joey about my find. I guess that would be kinda like growing up with Leo Fender, or Orvile Gibson...Joey said he MAY pay this thread a visit. I think that would be Mondo-Cool.

Actually, that's not quite right. I saw the pic you posted of the back of the headstock, where it says #1018. That's #1018 Reverend guitars and basses overall. There's no separate notation for Bass # on yours, like there is on the real early ones. For example, my blue Rumblefish is marked #465, Bass #47. I think he stopped numbering the basses specifically like that after the first 100. My red one is #576, bass #90, so bass #100 was probably around serial number 600-something.
You still got a great bass, though. Enjoy it!

Heh.. I just gigged it for the first time the other night, and let's just say I'm pretty attached to it!
I have the collection you're looking for.. red, white and blue, #90, #62 and #47, respectively. I've seen some blue ones come up for sale occasionally. The red that I have, "deep red", is supposedly rare, but they made a brighter red later on, I think it was "Fireball Red" or something. So, you might be able to complete the Dr. Seuss trio at some point.

In a previous thread there was a photo of Reverend #1305 that said "100" on it. This seemed to make my #808 a "top 100" bass, much to my delight!

FWIW, on the back of the headstock of my early R5L, it says #00606, R5L #8.

Playing it the other night, I started to come to the conclusion that it's one of those "magic pixie dust" basses for which everything seems just perfectly put together -- it just "sings" in a way few other basses I've owned do.

I think the 5-strings were numbered separately. As my red Rumblefish shows, there were at least 90 4-strings made by the time they hit serial #576 overall. Your 5-string is probably right around the 100th bass they made.. it's 30 instruments past my red one, and 8 of those 30 were 5-string basses. It's confusing!
I had R5L #19, a truly great bass. Green with a gold pickguard. I just couldn't adjust to 5-strings, but I wish I'd kept it.

Yes! And my 1018 "top 100" as well! 72 to be exact. Acording to Steve at Reverend they stopped the duel numbering on serial No 01015, which was Bass 71. the next bass they made was 01018. MINE!!!!

Hey, I've got the 1st Un-Numbered Bass.

But it was made in 10/99, and sold to Joe's Music in the Metro-Detroit area, where "Rumblefish" - John bought it. I think John said he also bought a 5er. I wonder what these Beauties went for? John care to Share?

Rumor Time! Steve said that there is semi-serious talk of an "Offshore" bass being made. Probably a limited edition item. and most likely all wood. Another "Thought" being bounced around there is a VERY Limited run of Phenolic basses. Necks are the missing pieces. Everything else is attainable or available. I suggested a Pre-Sale commitment on X amount of basses. If enough buyers commit, Build them LiL' Fishies!

Now, back to my Red-Fish, Blue-Fish...
