bought this last fall for a good price, and upgraded the PGs. Some don't like it, but I LOVE it.
I never got # cos I wanted the changes to be made before one was assigned.
I might be able to get a Ric soon (its about time 
) and I seem to remember reading that some years (recently) of rics had thicker necks. Anybody know what years those were?

Actually the most recent Ricks starting from 2006 come with the SLIMMER/THINNER neck.
Sometime in the later 90s till mid 2007 or so. During 2007 it is hit or miss for the new thinner profile, but by 2008 for sure you get the slimmer neck.I might be able to get a Ric soon (its about time
I'm pretty sure all 4003's were made with thin necks in 2006. If it's got the walnut headstock wings and tone switch, it's got the slim neck.
How much thinner are the necks post 2006? My 2004 neck feels rather hefty. Is there a very noticeable difference?
I've tried to find out myself. Apparently, the post '06 necks are somewhat thinner back to front, but have the same "width by nut" measurement. I have an '05 4003 and like the neck, but it is NOT a jazz bass neck, not super fast at all. It has more of a P bass feeling to it.
I do not believe there's much of a difference between a post and a pre '06 neck, but as said; I haven't compared them.
BTW, there's a thread at rickresource Invalid Link Removed that's rather informative on this subject.
I have an '06, and it feels alot like a '77 4001 I just had recently. I wouldn't call it thin, but it does feel nice. On a side note, anyone see the "Rastabacker" thread. That kid wants to paint his Ric some god aweful bright colors. Bleh.

Interesting. I'll try to get a measuring tape and see the result on mine (A 2006 4003 with walnut headstock wings and tone switch).
You know, I find Jazz bass necks some of the slowest necks around. I find Ric necks much faster. I hate that taper on Jazz necks, feels all wrong to me.
Uh, i'm pretty sure the 90's ricks had the chunky necks. They had a special announcement in 2006 that the 2006 model will have the slimmer neck.
Chronicle, for a long time they were making the older bigger necks alongside the new profile slimmer ones. With stragglers in production it was almost 2008 before you could be 100% sure to get the new profile.
The chunkier necks came mid to late 90s. My '91, '93, and '95 have the smaller necks.
My Oct 92 4003 has a very slim neck,i really love this bass i played a friends 01 4003 & that neck felt a lot chunkier.
Hey, can I join the Rick club? I don't know the secret handshake or anything, but here's a shot of the 1994 MagleGlo 4003 I ended up trading for my beloved, undocumented as-of-yet 1995 JetGlo. (Both, I believe, with the slimmer neck) Thanks!
