Look inside the cavity for the treble pickup and look for the little black wire with eyelet. It needs to be on one of the height adjusting screws. If it is there, it needs to be up against the metal mounting surround. If it is, while the hum is going, wiggle it and see if the hum changes. Also, make sure the shielded cables shield is connected at the bottom of the bridge pickup and also at the volume pot body in the control cavity.

Should be like this:

Thanks for the tip.
I did take it apart just to remove the pickup guard. I didn't notice where the ground was actually terminated but when I put it back together it was exactly like that exploded view and I did check the shield ground and that was good. I checked all the terminations in the control cavity and they looked good, nothing shorted together or broken off.

Alright, guys. Here's my latest addition to the family. It's a 2006 4003 Fireglow with a custom-made metal bridge pickup ring. The ring is very similar to the ones made by Pickguardian, except this one is made of 1/4" polished aluminum and actually looks like it belongs on a Ric. It matches the factory harware's look and scheme perfectly. The plexi Pickguardian rings always look so fake and strange on a Ric IMHO. Anyway, Dave at www.fretsonthenet.com will make one of these rings for you if interested.

Are the screw holes an exact line up with the original plate? Or do you put new holes in the top?

Hello My Friend,
While I love my Rick, 2003 4003 Midnight Blue, it is the NOISIEST bass I have. I too have checked all of the wiring and went as far as coating the cavities with shielding paint which helped a little. Although I have read that I am supposed to attach another ground wire somewhere but I don't really know how to do this soooo. Just wanted to sympathize with you.

It kind of ticks me off. My 82' 4001 that I used to own never did it.

Hey, thanks for that link to date my Ric!......Jan. '75! Just finished playing my new Musicman Sr5 20 Ann. ..... picking up the Ric to check the serial number gave me the sensation of lifting a feather! That MM has some heft! Bud
