As an S/5 owner, I'm interested. And as an owner of a hacked back to life "plays better than ever" 4003, I'm interested. Pics if you can get them too.

I have owned 4 4003s5 basses.

This one had a great neck, it was straight with the rods finger tight. I was a 1989.

This one was a 1990 4003s5. It was my main player for several years. The neck had a slight curve no matter how I adjusted it. It played great.

This one was a 1998 4003s5. The neck would not flatten out on this one. So I adjusted it as far as I could and simply put on lighter strings. It played good and looked good.

This one is a 1990 4003s5. It was striped and sanded down and oil finished. It was made into a C64 style 5 string Rickenbacker. It was the best looking and best playing 4003s5 I ever owned. The oil finish gave it a nice mid growl. The neck was straight and nice.

And here is a 4003 converted into a 5 string bass. I found out that I like the converted bass more than the factory 5 string basses.

Then I found out I like the converted 4004 better than the converted 4003.

SO im looking at making the jump into the club. I have a total chubby for the black 4003s but I think they would be KILLER with black plastics. . . those available?

You can find black pickguards. Pickguardian, for one, has them.

What is more difficult to find is a black TRC (truss rod cover).

I have a black pearloid pickguard and TRC (sans logo) on my S5. I've considered going to black on my 4003 and putting white pearloid on my S5 (I blame Jeff Scott for this, btw) :hiding:

:bassist:

Ric5, I always love seeing your 5ers. Even the bad ones are good, imo. I will need to track down a 4004 at some point, I think.
