you never know, man. Since I got my 4003 (in Aug 2011), I haven't had even the slightest bit of GAS for another bass. This one is perfect for me (after a few small mods, mind you), and I still can't think of replacing it. We'll see how that opinion holds up over more time, I guess. Now amps have been another matter altogether, but then, that would be another thread altogether too...:atoz:

Same here since March 2010.

I had Hipshot Xtender built fo it at the end of that year and now it gets 99% of the play time at home and 100% at gigs.
No significant GAS since.

the only gas you'll get is for more ricks

i just got the green light from she-who-must-be-obeyed to pick up a used rick from Ishibashi when i am over in japan in the next few months - fingers crossed i can find myself a v63 or something in ruby/burgundy to contrast my azureglo 4001. and maybe throw in a greco copy to sweeten the deal too.

Pretty much.

I think what I want most is a white 4001S or 4003S, a 4008/4003S8, a 4001V63, and a 4004. Maybe a 4004LK.

Oh, and that electric mandolin thing.

I'm digging the black on black but a few things on this bass put me off. First off the battery compartment on the front. I realize he made it reversible by not cutting into the rear of the bass. Swap out the pichguard and it's back to normal. I'm also not a huge fan of active pups. I wonder if it still sounds like a Rickenbacker. At least he kept all the parts to put it back to stock. For 5k, I think he'll own it a while!!

He could have made a split 'guard to facilitate battery replacement.
That would have looked much cleaner, other than that it's a decent mod, kind of a 4002 shaped 'guard.

And no one's gonna pay more than probably $1800-2000 for that tops.

I'm wondering why is it the neck is bound (in white, no less) while the body itself appears to be without any binding? Perhaps it's black binding that I'm not seeing? My Ric lore is far from complete, so maybe this was actually something...

In any case, I can't say I'm digging this look too much overall. For something like this, I would take the 'stealth mode' black 4001/3s. Active p'ups on a Ric just doesn't seem right...

Black binding was usually found on White 4001 and sometimes on Walnut/Autumnglo. But on 4001, the neck would be bound in white only. When RIC started the blackened hardware bit in 1985, they appear to have started binding the necks in black as well as the body. Although there are exceptions, the general rule would be:

No black-bound necks on 4001

Black-bound necks on 4003 from 1985-2002 with certain colors.

Haha, oh dear you may have misinterpreted; those pics were not of any basses I own! :bawl: Sadly I'm not at a point in my life where owning more than 1 high end (YMMV) bass is a viable option.... Being a young, gigging/teaching musician is rich in many things, dollars not being one of them!
