Yeah, that threesome is the first "Rickenbacker Confluence" -- just three guys. That's me on the right, Ric5 in the middle, and Steve Cooper (?) on the left. The occasion was my visit to Ric5 in June/July 2004 when he lived outside of Detroit. I sold him a Rick and had him do VVT mods on two 4004 basses. We reported our little soiree on the RRF and I dubbed it a "confluence" of Rick basses. In May 2005, the Ohio Rick Mafia put together something more formal in Columbus. The other photos above show the attendees at the Middle Atlantic Rickenbacker Confluence (or Festival if you prefer) held at Pick of the Ricks in Lindenwold, NJ a couple of years ago, and the inside shot was taken at RIO (Ricks in Ohio) also a couple of years back. That's me front row with the White V63.

Hey guys,

So I'm brand new to these forums, and having recently bought a Rickenbacker I immediately sought out this topic..

These are some beautiful guitars. I especially like the ones posted by Ric5. I would post a picture of mine but I don't have a great camera.

Just a question for all you Rickenbacker users out there - for finger style, how do you feel about the pup cover? Does it hinder your playing ability or does it take time getting used to?

I've had my Ric for about 5 or 6 months now, and until two days ago I played it finger style with the cover on. Once I got used to laying my arm across the top of the body and plucking over the neck pup it wasn't a problem.

The other day I removed it, and it feels a lot easier, now, and I now have more control over the tone by choosing a different position. But I miss the look of the cover.

So maybe try it for a while with the cover on and see what you think.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the quick replies and feedback.

I'm going to try it with the cover on and see how it goes. I play in a hard rock - think Alice in Chains, Soundgarden - and play exclusively finger style as I've always felt that I had better control over the instrument as a whole as opposed to a pick.

Petersland, those look slick and quite comfortable - what are they?

from a few pages back,Rickenboogie,Jaymi and Jeff said to improve the basic wiring on a 4004, to convert it to v.v.t,and single coil pickups. You can actually do both procedures without having to replace the hb1 pickups (which imo,are some of the best sounding bass pickups i've played in 30 plus years). i have my laredo already set up this way,and will be converting my cii to coil taps soon. (its already been changed to vvt) the hb1's sound really good in either mode,and being able to tap the neck pickup takes a bit of the woof out of the overall tone,which i think helps.
