Paul, if for some reason you could only keep one of them, which would it be, and why?
Also, if you could only add one more to your collection, what would it be? Can be a particular configuration or even a one that belongs/belonged to someone famous. Assume cost and availability are not obstacles.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the TA Deluxe Bezel. I'm going to take a look into that and see if I can either get used to playing with the pup cover - I christened it last night and played it a live gig for the first time, and it felt comfortable - or replace with something like the TADB.
As a new Rickenbacker owner, is there anything I should investigate, look into or watch out for in particular regarding my 4003? I've done reading but I figured I'd ask on here as well. Cheers

The one I would keep would be my original; the berry burst one in the middle of that pic. It used to be a kinda beat-up Mapleglo that I got used in 1975. It's a 1972 restored by Ted Staberow and Paul Wilczynski. I'll sell all the others, but that one I'm keeping.
What would I add? Well, I'd like a Lemmy just for looks, but I'm attracted to interesting wood grain and figuring. Celebrity instruments, I'd likely want to be willed Chris Squire's cream RM 1999!
In 1984, I bought a 1977 4001. I then proceeded to do a dumb-kid thing and got rid of the hard shell case for a lighter one.
Fast forward to 2011 and I'm really regretting this so I start looking for a case to buy. So far, I've bought three on eBay and none of them have been correct.
The first one was definitely not for a Ric, much less a 4001.
The second one was a bit trickier - I've come to learn through this forum and Rickresource that there were a variety of cases used by Rickenbacker. My 1977 case was the kind where the neck was supported in two places - behind the headstock and just above the body. The second case only supported the neck behind the headstock and the base rattled around inside the case. I learned that Rickenbacker did have cases like that so this one could have been accurate. However, the string indentations on the inside of the lid ran the full length of the lid. There was no evidence of the pickup cover or the big Ric bridge.
The third one arrived today. It was listed as a mid-70s 4001 case. There were detailed pictures and it was just what I remembered with the two neck supports etc. However, when I put the 4001 in it, it didn't fit. The upper horn was much too long. Coincidentally, the case does fit my '76 3001 perfectly so at least I'm keeping this one.
So now that I've vented. here's my question - is there a better way to locate the case I need? At the very least, I will begin asking for detailed pictures and a measurement from the back of the case to the neck support. I've learned more about Ric cases than I ever cared to know - not nearly as interesting as learning about the instruments themselves.
