Just bought my first Ric, brand new 1 month ago. Here's a snapshot right before I removed that pesky pickup guard. I thought I would stay with all original and keep it but I really like having it off. Been playing a Spector NS-2JA for 25+ years but I'm most likely going to be playing the Ric exclusively for the near future.
Gimme a # please! I wanna join the club!

I know where the Spector can go if you decide to retire it also!

So, I finally added a bezel cover to my 4001 after 35 years. It looks great.

BUT, when I was installing that, the ground wire from the adjustment screw came loose from the back of the pickup, and it's not obvious just where it came from. So, is that just soldered to the back of the pickup or is there something more sophisticated that I'm not seeing.

(I know, I should have paid attention before it came loose, but I didn't know I would need that little bit of knowledge at that point).

I can't tell exactly which wire you are talking about based on this description--pics?? I really hope the thin black wire didn't come out of the pickup bobbin because if it did you are in for a not-so-fun time. Maybe you just mean the ground-end of the pickup lead wire?

I think it's that they do whatever they think is right at the time, and that changes from time to time.
Not so much that the changes are arbitrary, but that they don't publicise the reasons much.

Did you check the diagrams on the Ric web site? I seem to recall that there was a ground wire hooked into the connection between the surround plate and the cover somewhere.
