The Rickenbacker Club Part Six

Are all 4003's made with the same string gauge? Because i tried putting on 45-105 gauge and none of the strings fit at all.

The nut is cut (in my experience) for .050''-.062''-.084''-.110''. The A and D slots can't really take a .065'' or .085'' properly but the G and E should handle .045'' and .105'' just fine... after all that's what the stock strings are.

I have said that exact same thing before. Perfect!!! When I think Ric tone I think "Cinderella Man" by RUSH and "Roundabout" by Yes.

One thing about Roundabout, the Ric sound there is a bit spesial as Chris plays 2 Rickenbackers on this track! He plays first his 4001/RM1999 but there after he plays a Rickenbacker guitar over the bass track, I think it is a 360 model.

I'd like to PM someone here with a few Rick questions. Who here knows a whole lot about pricing, resale value, etc., and would be willing to feild a coupla questions. Please lemme know. Thanks.

I am certainly no where near the most knowledgeable when it comes to Ric's, but I do play a 4003, so feel free to PM me any questions you have. I'll do my best to answer them.

Never posted a pic of my late (December) '73 Rick, so here it is:

Sure it doesn't have the checkerboard binding, or the horseshoe and toaster pickups, but I still think she looks great and sounds great.

I did add Hipshot tuners and bridge as well as some TI flats. Next I just have to get a detuner, and try her stereo.

Definitely putting the bridge pickup through an SVT/Berg NV610, and the neck pickup through either a DB750 or an 800RB/Accugroove Whappo jr setup.

I'm sure some of you guys might be able to feel the rumble when I do lol.

I would suggest visiting the Rick Resource Forums. They have a classified forum, so you can see what Ricks go for, and an appraisal section as well. Lots of good info there, you can get into the real nitty gritty. Probably more than most folks need to know, but it's there none the less.

Thanks. I pretty much got the info I was looking for. May be a club member one day soon. Got some serios hagglin to do first. :)

No, tried putting a new set of chromes on my 4003 but they didn't fit. Maybe they were packaged wrong or something. I'll have to find out what's up then. Thanks.

Some strings are really fat at the ball ends ... they have trouble fitting into some bass bridges.

Solution ...

Remove the bridge and tailpiece and drill the string holes a little larger, then replace the bridge and tailpiece and string it up.

The silk at the ball end on Chromes and the new Fenders are really pretty fat, and won't go through the Ric bridge without a bit of a struggle.
