Back in 2005 or so, w/my '02 4003.
Have a full beard now, but still have the Ric:

Unfortunately I barely played it at all the past two years and only recently fell back in love after playing it for my sister a few months ago - she's starting to play bass as well.

She thought it sounded fabulous next to all my other basses.

I see that it is sealed, which is why I figured the lemon oil would do nothing, but the grain in the rosewood looks very dry, like a light color.

The light color in the grain is the filler RIC uses to make the fretboard level before shooting the conversion varnish. If they didn't fill the open grain of the bubinga wood the clearcoat would not be smooth.

To really clean and shine up your bass get some all cotton baby diapers, wash without fabric softener, get Zymol blue car wax (water based carnuba wax) and clean up both the finger board and the body. With a couple coats it will look almost wet. The honey yellow accents in the fretboard wood will look 3D.

I sometimes think it's sanding dust that was not properly wiped out of the wood with naptha or a tack cloth and then the fingerboard just sprayed right over.

My Ricks are all a bit like that as well. Lots of it on my CS and doubleneck.
And I do happen to like how it looks.

Also, Zymol is indeed great stuff. Just waxed a Ric today as a matter of fact. I'm blinded!!!

After owning my Gibson RD Artist for about five years I decided to give it the Scratch-X & Zymol treatment. Unfortunately, the person who owned it previously didn't appreciate or take care of it as they should have. After a bit of work with the two products I was pleasantly surprised with the results. It has a whole new look. It was the first time I ever used the two products. I can't say enough good things about them.

I was actually thinking of having the instrument refinished. Not any more! :)

I've got pics on page 33 and 34,but my number request is on 34. Actually I said in that post that I mean to ask for a number,but I guess I never did.

I do need to take some updated pics though since she's all cleaned up,but I do have some on those pages!

I can't see the pic you are referring to Giben,but the funny thing is ...I took an udated pic of my Ric on my Subaru just today because the darkest color of my fireglo is close to the color of my Legacy...lol. I gotta post up the pic later for sure now.

Edit...Ok, I can see the pic now and my pic is nothing like this...it's only 1 Ric compared to his plethora of Thunderbirds! Wow that's more than impressive.

Just got these fine Rics today and I'm a pig in Ric! This is the second V63 and the 6th Ric I've owned...but somehow this one feels like the best I've ever played. (My style's change alot over the years. I'm still mostly a J bass player, but always knew I'd get another Ric someday.) Slim '90 neck and even slappable. No dead spots. (Thanks to Kevin at Kebo bassworks for selling it to me. ;) And, if you haven't discovered Bill's Music in Peabody, MA...well, you should. Real six string gems there for all you bass/ part-time geetar players.) Gonna start an Abbey Road project now. The 660/12 is gonna satisfy my Byrds/REM jones. (Somebody please buy my Pre-EB Stingray in the classifieds!!!)
