The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I was surprised at how much I liked the stock rounds on my newer Rics. Pricey, though. I wonder who actually makes them, because I don't think Ric has a string manufacturing facility.

I put the factory rounds back on my 4003w, I do like them, usually I'm a flats on fretted, rounds on fretless kinda guy but I went crazy and even have two fretless with flats!

I'm even considering tapewounds on my fretless Ric...... (damn you Cris Brubeck!!!) I think I need to see a doctor....

Are there actual Ric branded strings? I thought there were just "close enuff" sets...?

so I finally got this " 4000" in today
it was listed by a seemingly reputable seller as being built for him as he " knows someone" and it was said to come with documentation.
It arrived with zero paperwork, nothing.
I pulled the pickguard to see what was up, was it routed for a neck pickup etcetera
it is routed for a neck pickup
pickguard doesn't look like Ric's work
has 2 serials in the cavity, one is crossed out, neither are what's on the jackplate and remnants of fireglo in the cavity
Also the case arrived smashed on a corner
I messaged him with a pic of the cavity / case and my concerns and ask him to please advise

He insists the paperwork is in the case (really, its not) and that I can message a Brian or something on Instagram and ask him.
No word about the case.

So then he tells me if I want to return it I have until 1:14pm tomorrow (it was delivered at 1:14 today) and the clocks ticking because I " came at" him

it wasn't my intent to ask for a refund just clarification on the documentation and some conciliation on the case, after our exchange I'm happy to send it back

I've told him I'm not paying for return shipping , restocking fees or anything else

his shop says buyer pays unless " not as described"
well I'd say lacking provenance and a broken case is not as described

I requested a refund via Reverb, he denied my refund saying that since I removed the pickguard I've tampered with it and it needs to meet his inspection

to top it off now he's mocking/ trying to intimidate me

this is a seller that has 700 feedback and supposedly builds for a name brand company under his roof

unreal

I turned it over to Reverb customer service as I'm not comfortable trusting him to do the right thing

I believe it did leave Ric like it is but what good is that without any provenance?

If it was shipped via the USPS he may have violated federal law. Using the post office to commit fraud is generally frowned upon.

I am NOT an attorney!

it was FedEx
Reverb should have my back, if not I paid with PayPal

I had asked him that before he sent it to send me a pic of the warranty card, he said " absolutely"
obviously that never happened

post his reverb name, d-bags don't deserve our money

Ah yes...Denmark Street! Where the Stones recorded their first album and all sorts of other history. Those shops are amazing aren't they?
Edit: I'm in West London...Teddington. The band I'm in is based in South London

That's the place! My first visit I was staring into the window looking at guitars and wondered why so many people were stopping to take a picture of the shop. Then I looked a little higher and understood!

And yes @geddeeee Tin Can Alley is the nickname. I kept getting Rod Stewart singing Gasoline Alley in my head suddenly and couldn't shake it.

so I finally got this " 4000" in today...

pickguard doesn't look like Ric's work

Sorry for your bad fortune.
Hopefully things will work out ok.
That Pickguard has exactly the same misplaced screw hole (the one by the G string and neck pickup) as one I got from a "reputable" pickguard manufacturer.
I haven't decided what to do with mine yet. I hate when a countersink is not concentric with the hole.

" Electrical Guitar Company"
apparently builds Travis Beans
I was surprised at the treatment I got, I reminded him he has what looks to be a reputable business and asked him to please do the right thing.
He degraded to 5yr old name calling from there
That's a shame, they make cool stuff other than Travis Bean stuff. Glad I didn't go for the T-40 they had listed some time back.
