Finally have pictures!

Please ignore the two ladies on the left.

This is a 1984 Rick I bought here on the forums about a month or so ago. It's got some wear, and the pickups were replaced with Seymour Duncans long ago. I initially was thinking of replacing with original Rick pickups but it sounds so damn good I don't think I will. The only problem is I don't have a plave to rest my thumb when playing near the bridge. I have to figure something out.

I am actually have an issue w/ fingerboard lift, can anyone with insight check out my thread here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=384025

Dam terryfunk4life lol, what rock have you been hiding under? People have been doing that mod for years now and ric has offered that standard on all new rics since early 06. It is a great mod-do it if your ric does not already have it.

23travis- Seriously your best bet is to get a new 4003. Rics hold there value, even the road warriors, cause there built like tanks. You get the warrenty and an instrument that never goes down in value. To say nothing of the modern features the new 4003's have that make them some of the best bass's ric has ever produced.

jetpackbassist--the first thing I thought when I saw your bass was "wow what a great fretboard"--WOW......

Have you guys seen the new color ric has been producing as of late? A jetglo varient called Grayglo? [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Yeah, having looked around a bit, it seems like that'll be the best way to go. I'll just take another few weeks to save up for a new one. That'll be cool 'cuz then I'll be able to get the color, etc. that I want, as well as that old-school tone mod that everyone's talking about.

well you will be able to get the color you want if you are prepared to wait. I just ordered a new 4003 from MF (pcs when it arrives) and the only color in stock was Jetglo. Any other colors are back ordered until March of next year. I am guessing those delivery dates are just best guesses.

you mean the headstock?

the headstock on the right handed model of the 64S is upside down, because its a recreation of mcCartneys bass

mccartney had a lefty bass, but it was such a new model that they had to put a right handed neck on it, so his was upside down

so now, to make it "identical" to his, they made it right handed with a lefty neck

I see. I just did a little research -- I think Paul's lefty was a prototype, as many of the Beatles' Rickenbackers were. Being who he was he seemed able to have them do all sorts of custom work to it.

I'm a lefty myself but I made the ironic decision to play right-handed because I figured lefties would be rarer and more expensive. So I'm in the pawnshop after playing for three years, finally having saved up the cash, looking for a Rickenbacker, and they've got three: a very new-looking blue sparkle, a model 4000, and a fireglo with some water damage. The blue one is a left-handed model.

Now that I know a bit more I'm glad I got the one I have, as it's a rare bird indeed, but at the time it seemed ridiculous because I could have easily learned to play left-handed and on that particular day I would have picked up the blue one in perfect condition, no problem.

Oh, I will. I spent a little time yesterday trying to think about what little-used music stuff I could sell... turns out I use everything that's worth any significant amount of money.

With the holidays fast approaching, there's no money to spare, but sometime next year, I'll get me a Ric!
