i currently own 2 basses,a white 74 4000 set-neck,and an '04 4004cii maplglo. i love 'em both. over the years,i have owned and sold a 68 4000,75 4001,maple 4005 and an 83 4002.

I haven't really made up my mind about this news, from a marketing view this might be a logical choice since the company has a lot of backorders but I understand potential customers being pissed about it.
This announcement is also saying to me that Rickenbacker is still holding tight onto it's quality reputation.

Actually I've heard a lot of people say over the last few years that they felt Rics were underpriced. I guess if a company can give its self a healthy raise and get away with it then good for them!
Too bad I'm out of the club, probably for good since the price hike. I love the Ric, just not as much as some others
My AFG 4003 is gone, traded for another flavor of passive four string bliss...
Not talking about the raise. I am talking about RIC removing features in order to catch up on production. Their line is lean as it is. Now they are compromising quality to get quantity.
Well i'm glad owning a Rick is now an investment

That's funny, I have almost the same 2 basses - a natural L-2000 Tribute, and a 4001 Mapleglo.

It's an interesting combo. You can cover a lot of bases with those two basses. *pun intended*
The G&L with the D'Addario half rounds covers new and old school. From Zep to Darkwing. While the Ric with the toaster and DR Lowriders covers the old school prog (Yes, Genesis, Deep Purple, ELP...etc).
I love my Ric, but I wanted to get another bass for some additional/different sound possibilities. Didn't want 'only' a P-bass, didn't want a Jazz, so I was thinking of trying to find a good deal on either an Aerodyne with a P/J setup or a Stu Hamm Urge-II. Started reading about G&L's and found that they're pretty highly regarded and supposedly tonal chameleons.
I don't know all the history about Music Man and G&L, but I guess the L-2000 has at least some things in common with a Stingray? Personally I find Stingrays very unappealing visually - I hate the chrome boomerang control cavity cover and round looking pickguard. I much prefer the clean look of the L-2000.
I actually just got the L-2000 a few days ago, got it off eBay for less than $300. It's friggin' SWEET! Different from the Ric but still very cool. It has nice tone controls, and I'm still learning how to use all the switches. I'm not interested in having a collection of dozens of basses. The fewer the better, and with these two that's it, I'm done.
