What are 4003's goign for thse days, I hear there was a price increase?

I haven't really made up my mind about this news, from a marketing view this might be a logical choice since the company has a lot of backorders but I understand potential customers being pissed about it.
This announcement is also saying to me that Rickenbacker is still holding tight onto it's quality reputation.

I was going to order a 4001C64 last March. Wade's quoted 2099 which was 200 of list. I ordered a 4003 instead which only cost $1250 at the time. Now a C64 will run close to $3000 and a 4003 close to $1800
The eBay prices are already skyrocketing. Pretty soon only Canadians and Europeans will be able to afford them.
It's not boutique pricing yet but it's darn close.

I dont have a RICCY yet, but I am envious. They are the best looking basses around. Love the quality and feel.

I just paid $1600 for a 2007 4003 Jetglo from MF plus $65 for shipping to Canada. I am not getting why 2007 "unplayed" 4003 Jetglo's are going for $1800+ on Ebay. I must be missing something.
I never understood why so-so condition late 70's-2000 era Rics sell for more than new prices either. While Ric has had a backlog for some time it isn't that hard to find common models/colors NEW for less than run of the mill used models go for. I guess people are just lazy, credit is easy to get and, frankly, maybe some buyers are just dumb.
My 2 cents worth on the resale value of used Ricks...
I got my 06 AFG 4003 from Bass Emporium for about $1400 a year ago, when AFG was the COTY (and cost a couple hundred bucks premium). My 76 JG 4001 will probably fetch about the same price as the new one...all this before the recent price increase, of course. And, while I've not played a bunch of the 4003s, I understand that 06 marked the return of the thinner neck in the 4003.
But, for my money, the 4003 will never feel as good as the 4001 in the neck (at least, mine doesn't). And the vintage tone control still does not result in a tone exactly like my 4001. So, while the 4003 is more robust in the neck, and arguably more flexible in the tone options, and with a tailpiece that should avoid the dreaded "tail lift", I still think it's still got some subtle differences from the 4001s. And lastly, there's no skunk stripe in the MG ones anymore...just the darker wings.
So, IMHO, the 4003 just is not a 4001. Both good, both Ricks, and both fulfilling the needs of Rick-lovers everywhere...and both finely made guitars from a US manufacturer...but I guess the 4001s command such a high resale and hold their value cuz you just can't get anything like them anymore, regardless of how good the 4003s are..or the other guitars they sell(though I confess I've not played a C64).
For me, while I enjoy the 4003 tone for lots of things I play and like the flexibility...for pure playing enjoyment, the 4001 wins hands down in my opinion. Of course, as always, YMMV.
