Oh wow! Same here! I got mine September of 06. I don't ever plan to sell mine, but it's nice to know the value is increasing!

Just dropped some coin on this 1973 July fireglo, haven't received it yet so I'm using the sale pics. This falls in line with my other checkerboard 73 4001's, a January burgundy(refin), February jetglo, April dark burgundy, May azureglo, June white(refin), just need a March mapleglo to have a straight flush. After July the checkered binding practically disappeared, I've only seen one August that's had it.

Hello everyone,

I'm going to take a huge stab in the dark, but maybe I'll get lucky! My Dad is a huge Rick fan, he's been playing one for decades. During a recent visit back home, he mentioned to me he would love to track down the first Rick that he owned, which over the years had been stolen, recovered and then unfortunately sold. :hmm: I'm wondering if anyone here on the forum has come across the following RicK (some specifics are blurry due to years passing):

The bass in question is a '71 (possibly '72) Rickenbacker 4001. My dad is pretty sure that the serial was XX454, with the X's referring to letters that he can't remember. He remembered the number due to it reminding him of the car engine. What makes the bass a little easier to identify is that my dad had a piece of abalone put on the top horn, and he also had the inlays redone in abalone as well. Here's a picture, before the inlay work had been performed. Notice the horn:

My dad grew up in the Boston area, and a friend of his had mentioned seeing the bass in a pawn shop in Hartford, CT years ago. Has anyone seen this bass before, or have any idea where I might be able to continue the search? Many thanks!
