Rickenbacker suggests a dead flat fingerboard (zero relief) for their basses. Any relief in the neck will "raise" the nut relative to the bridge (so to speak). This in turn, results in the bridge having to be adjusted lower to compensate.

So, all else being equal... check to make sure you've got as close as you can get to a dead straight neck on that Rick.

Well, the relief was really minimal. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how my next Ric measures up. It just seemed like the components (bridge, height of fingerboard in relation to the body)wasn't designed to have super low action and with it being a neckthrough, there is no shot at shimming it.

Sounds about right for a factory setup. Ric is pretty conservative in the setting the string height. I had my action lowered by having the nut slots filed. Now it's very low, no fret buzz but nice clanky string-on-frets sound when picked hard.

AHAH! I knew I'd get called on that eventually;)

You might have noticed I haven't been plastering pics of it all over the place like I said I was going to, it just hasn't thirilled me that much. The bass is fine but my jazz deluxe has the magic. Played the Ric with the band the other night and got all the oohs and aahs out of the way, but the more I play the Ric the more I like the Jazz. I got it priced up there pretty high and if it doesn't sell I'll hang onto it.

If it doesn't speak to you, it just doesn't. Good thing these are in demand:D I see you have had a change of heart and embraced the idea free enterprise also, I knew you'd come around.;) BTW, if you want to get that price you should make it available internationally. The last two '07 midnight blues that went for $1900+ went out of country (germany and france, i think)

Before i returned my 4003 I was experimenting with tones a bit and found that the bridge pickup soloed really made the E string loose a lot of definition while the others were still pretty pronounced exagerated with tone rolled down. To me the bridge pickup was where it was at. Where do you have your tone set with the neck soloed?

Well Rick has the pole pieces on the A-D strings up more than the E and G so yes the E and G string is a little lower in volume than the A-D's. I put my E-string polepiece up for more volume but it takes a lot of trail and error to see how high you can get it up without it hitting the string when playing.

I don't really mess with the tone settings. Especially for the neck cause that's my effects pickup.

Well she's gone, went to a new home in Arizona.
I took the Rick club link off my sig, but I'll probably have it back one day. My Rick GAS began with a white 4001 with black binding and sooner or later I almost certainly will snag one.

Until then I think Invalid Link Removed will keep my GAS in check ;)
