I have a dark blue one I picked up in 1983 it is a 1982 model I think, the letters stamped on it is "VD" would this be correct? It looked very new when I got it, it was $350.00 should this have come with one of those horseshoes? On the second page of this thread someone mentioned that the old ones were magnetic and changed the sound, if I found one and put it on would I have a diffrent sound? I'm pretty sure mine is a 4001.

'73 4001 MG, '7x 4000 MG, '79 4001 JG FL, '99 4003 JG. I also have an Rickenbacker B-115 tube amp.
I will make new family pictures once my 4003 BBR is in. But it might be the 4003 JG will go then as it doesnt get much playing time anyway. (I like old smaller necks much better.)

Forget the plan to put frets back in this thing. I have been playing it a lot more lately and now I remember why I had it converted in the first place.
Besides, the $500 I saved by not doing the re-conversion went into a new MK Bayou resonator acoustic bass which should show up on the doorstep tomorrow.
Having two basses for the price of repair work feels like a smart choice.

Ha ha. I don't think I'd ever be able to let it go, though I'd love a Blueboy or Burgundyglo. That's a sweet Fireglo you got. How'd the truss rod replacement go? The ones in mine were wonked when I got them and my tech had to do a little work on it. Can't bend the neck past the 12th fret, but it hasn't affected its playability at all. Maybe I should consider putting in new rods.
I really should play mine more. I think I'll take it out on a date this weekend.
First time I see another 4000 maploglo, other than mine.
I've seen photos of yours on the rickresource forum and they are quite similar. Mine shows more usage marks.
I did the actualy replacement myself. It was easy. I just left a one mark but nothing that i would cry over.
I had it set-up by a tech later on. These rods i have are much more stronger, you can tell but just comparing them side-by-side. I don't wanna say this but the ones Rick has in were junk.
