The rickenfakers!

I've always been a huge fan of rics. Sound, feel and look, so old timey. I've recently played one for my second time in the past six years at a Sam ash store in my town. The thing was awesome! Course theres also the rickenfakers. I get they are a clones but I've never really heard about them.

For any rickenbacker and/or rickenfaker owners out there what pros and cons to the faker to the backer? And if you own a faker post a pick please.

Own a faker and owned a backer. Preferred the faker's tone and was lighter weight (that and the fact I own and collect ibanez copies) Mine is an ibanez and the major difference is bolt on rather than neck through. Haven't used the faker live yet in 6 years since I got it but I let my friend borrow it from time to time and he's in love with it but I will never part with it.

I have a Rockinbetter 4003. its a really well made bass that does give you the ric sound. its also a neck-thru.
i added a Ric tone switch kit and now get the vintage/ modern sound at the pull of a switch.
Living in the UK means picking up a new Rockinbetter is easy as it in in Australia but its called a Reblerocker over there. really hard to get them in the USA.
the older Japanese made copys are getting much harder to find now and most people that have them hang onto them, are even harder to find outside the Uk.

those are some pretty sweet clones, im really surprised Ibanez took a shot at a RIC clone. as far as Ric clones, or even rickenfakers anybody know a good place to snatch one

Not in the USA!!! but openly sold here in the Uk and in Australia. the Rockinbetter and Reblerockers are made in the Tokia factory in China and Korea. the 20 fret ones are Chinese and the 22 fret ones Koriean. think only the 20 fret ones are imported into Australia by Tokia. the Uk ones are imported by Tokia UK Ltd. the 20 fret ones in Australia come with a 5 year Tokia warranty.
look at the bottom of the page for Reblerocker to see the three they import. they do import other instuments but only Tokia electric guitars.

Ibanez used to clone everything. The were the lawsuit in "lawsuit Gibsons" too.

The Ibanez copies are collectible by themselves now, and people don't like to part with them anymore. The Chinese ones are basically expensive Chinese basses. Why pay several hundred dollars for a Chinese bass when you can get one for half as much from Rondo? :rollno: But I'd be interested in a used one as long as it's at a used price.

are the Chinese basses expensive!!!! where can you get a thru neck for under £500. also the pick-ups in the Rockinbetter/Rebelrockers are really very good and high output, (12.5ohm).
Rondo do make good cheep basses but the all sound like fenders apart from there douglas basses.
not seen a Rondo thru-neck!!!!
with the Rockinbetter/Rebelrockers you get a bass that looks like a 4003 and sounds like one too.
if you ever get a chance to play one you will see that there well made thro-neck basses and on par for price of most thru-neck basses of the same quality. i have been playing bass since 1968 and i know a good bass when i play one and the Rockinbetter is a well made bass and should be judged as a Rockinbetter and not just a ric clone.

I have 3 RickenFakers, all of which were purchased for less than the price of one 4003.

OK, so they aren't exact copies at 34" scale length, different bridge, etc.. OK, so they don't "sound" like a real Ric (saying that, from it's inception in the early 80's a real 4003 never sounded like a Ric either, until they added the Vintage Circuit in 2006).

As I had to sell my old 4003, I needed a viable replacement. Bought & tried a few other "name" manufacturer basses, but they weren't Ric's, and couldn't compete with a Ric. The next best thing to a Ric, but more affordable than a Ric is a RickenFaker. All 3 are through necks, all 3 play and sound great. No, they aren't Ric's, but they are mine.
