The 0.0047 uF cap will make the treble pickup sound really nasal if you go into a low input impedance. Into a good preamp it actually sounds surprisingly good even soloed. If you run both pickups together with high input impedance the result is that you hear both pickups without any filtering between the two, and it's a totally different sound from the cap bypassed with both pickups on where the treble pickup is putting more bass out but the two pickups filter each other and scoop the sound.

Yeah, I've got the push/pull circuit in my bass. Totally different sound with both pickups on with the cap engaged than without.

Normally I just use the bridge pickup (cap not engaged) and the neck pickup separately for different sounds depending on the song, or even just the part of the song (bridge is for loud, aggressive sound, neck pickup, which is a toaster, is for soft parts of songs that require a more gentle sound). However, the sound with both pickups on and the cap engaged is quite usable, and I've played it that way a few times.

Besides Dave Meros of Spock's Beard, anyone know how a Babicz works out on a Ric?

Contacted Babicz and had an almost instant reply from the owner, who said he hadn't any experience with his bridge on a Ric yet, and the main thing to check (I'm drawing from memory here) would be proper string spacing.

Spacing is fine, just wonder about string height being low enough. I think the semi-retro-technical look would suit my 4001.

Glad to have found this thread. I was all prepared to buy a super nice, slightly collectible Ric. Then the light came on in my head, "dude, you know you will want to change it, mod it, don't buy that collector's item." So I spared myself a grand and am pre-emptively looking forward to modding the heck out of my 4003. Ric bridge - gone. Mute - don't need, I know how to palm mute. Pickguard - I have evil and twisted plans.

I don't need a number.

I'm modding my Shine Rickenfaker with Hipshot parts and I want to change my pickups too. Currently my bass has the Seymour Duncan Rickenbacker replacements, but I don't like the neck pickup especially.

I have been considering a Thunderbird pickup for the neck position or possibly humbucker, but I don't know what humbucking neck pickups there are available except the mudbuckers and I don't want muddy sound.

I've consired also changing the bridge pickup, but I don't know what kind would fit there.

The neck pickup has to have a chrome cover and the bridge pickup has to have atleast some chrome parts.

Could go the Burton route, Gibson Ebo humbucker at the neck?

My "new" 2001 4004cii ... I did a small mod ... I rewired it vol, vol, tone with 500k ohm pots and a .047 capacitor. I also cleaned the fretboard and gave it 2 coats of tung oil, and I leveled the frets with a dimond file and waxed it with zymol.

Rare Rickenbacker 2004 4004cii5 Trans Green 5 string bass

This is a discontinued model. Less than 100 were made. This is rarer than the 4002 model. This is rarer than the 4005 model. This is in the 4080 territory or the 1960s 4001 territory.

The bass is modified. The factory pickups were designed for a 2 1/8" spacing so they were too narrow to cover the 3" string spacing. The current pickups cover all five strings at equal volume.

The bass has a Bartolini neck pickup and a Nordstrand big single pickup. It also has an Audere 4 band preamp and a battery box.
