Interesting question. My Samick is all passive, but I would think that any good onboard preamp would work fine. I've heard good things about the ones from Aguilar.

PUs, measure the dimensions and see what shape they are eg EMG45, P2 etc which will tell you what will fit without routing. The Bartolini site has almost all of the dimensions for various shapes.

nicee i just realized i have the gut shot i think the bart 5ers will work with 6? OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO barts in non standard Koran pickup configs for 6ers!!! that might be the ticket

I'm not suggesting to use Barts, just to use the site to determine to correct size and then use that to look around for what you might like. Lots of people make EMG and P2/4 sizes in all sorts of PU configurations.

Perhaps check out a Dimarzio model J in the neck position before making irreparable changes to the bass. The Model J "is a beefy, noise cancelling pickup with a nice vintage tone" from what @socialleper said in the TB thread about getting P-bass tones out of a J-bass pickup.

And @john_g suggested, "Add a series / parallel switch to your jazz and run it in series when you want a P like sound."

Nordstand has the 51 Split-J 5 pickups that are effectively the 1951 P-bass pickup in a Jazz bass cover.

In all cases, you'll want to measure your current pickup housing to have an easy drop-in fit.

Considering that there are few P-bass pickups that are wide enough to handle a 6 string bass, you may want to work with your current ones for a while longer and see if they love you back.

WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.......... so after a month GC in Kansas broke my pre amp..... they broke the vol pot enough to break my whole pre amp????? never going there for anything again!

My Samick is very comfortable to play, but is anything but light. lol. Hard to believe I bought mine new 26 years ago.

so i got it out GC jail after paying $225 after they broke it because i had to Still pay for the set up and half the pre amp... but putting it though its paces today i dont even want to put EMGs in it as the stock Samick pickups woke up. still never going to GC in KS ever again
