That's ok. I like it enough for both of us.
Kinda wondering if anyone has an original Fender P-bass 5 string pickup sitting in a drawer they want to unload....
I'm kinda feeling like I want that old school P-bass sound, rather than a more aggressive modern style pickup. I know, I know, just go buy a cheap American or Mexican 5 string P-bass... lol.

I don't think Fender has a Mexican 5 string P bass. Last time I looked the only Fender P basses with 5 strings were either American Pro II or American Performer series.
You would hate reading a Mackie manual. Technically precise, but full of funny random interjections of random rabbit trails....
They were one of my favorite tech bits from the way-back machine...
Honestly that sounds more enjoyable than the "thesaurus and a bag of weed" approach that Nordstrand takes. Trying to read their product descriptions honestly turns me off of considering their products sometimes. If I didn't already know that they made top tier stuff, I'd never consider them based on their product descriptions alone... Anyway, I digress...
Of Nordstrands offerings, I think the NP5F is probably your choice, or the NP5V. You could also look at some of their humbucking soapbar options, like the Big Split, BigRig, Fat Stack, or Dual Coil. The BigRigs are definitely on my list to try some day.

Been chatting with Stew at Nordstrand and now I'm going back and forth between a custom NP5F (his recommendation) and the Fender Power blade (stock works). I think I'd be happy with either. I just need to make a decision and order one of them.
It's weird because before this I was pretty dead set on the SD, and I'm feeling like this might be a better direction. Especially with some La Bellas or Rotosound Flats on it. (yet another rabbit hole I'm going to dig for myself...
Maybe I'll just go watch the baby bunnies in my back yard...

Or just make a couple of knobs for the sliders..
I liked the Power Blade P4 when I tried it, but ended up going more vintage after that. Eventually Settled on a SD Antiquity 2.
I think my biggest goal is to wind up with something that doesn't sound like the other basses in my small collection.
I pulled the trigger on the Power Blade. It'll be here in a few weeks, unfortunately, I can't do much else until that arrives as my next step is to route the pickups while the top still has a flat area (the ring around the edge).
So I'm going to start work on a custom cabinet for my wife's stamping hobby. We couldn't find a cabinet to vertically store the 12x12 paper, and she told me that she wanted me to build something besides guitars in the shop for a bit... (Just don't tell her that this cabinet is going to cost more than I've spent on the SCP build...
)
Don't worry, they replaced that warped board, all the boards are reasonably straight. 25BF of 8/4 and 41BF of 4/4 plus a few sheets of Baltic birch ply was still pretty steep even at the distributor...

So it's a desk height (29") 3 drawer cabinet, 18" wide x 36" deep. I'm keeping the design relatively simple because I have never done this kind of cabinetry before (aside from some very not square speaker cabinets back in high school...)
The top will be 8/4, while the drawers and frame will all be made from 4/4.
The bottom drawer is 12.5" high x 13" wide internal dimensions, and about 30" deep once I account for the wood thickness and some set backs from the edges. The middle drawer is 7" x 13" and the top pencil drawer is only about 3" x 13".
Each drawer will have a braced 1/2" Baltic Birch bottom, and in the case of the biggest drawer, 1/8" sides between the bottom frame (with the slides) and a top frame.

Starting with rough cut lumber means the first part of my day was spent running oversized pieces through the thickness planer....
Specified dimensions for the drawer lumber is 3/4".
Then a combination of tablesaw and router table ....Wait....
That's not how this is supposed to work...
So a trip to the hardware store later....
The sides are slotted for the rails and the bottom. The front is a half blind reveal. The rear has a cutout around the sides to allow the slides to work. a bit of handwork to make the drawer fronts fit nicely.

And this boys and girls is why we wait until we have the hardware in hand before gluing up. I measured pretty precisely, and still wound up about 1/32" too narrow.
Because I don't have many of the tools (read big clamps) for cabinet making, this is proving to be an expensive endeavor. Of course the next one (ha!) I'll own all the tools!

The problem is that I am running out of basses that I need. I could always revisit and improve on an older build, but that's completely different.
I could build a couple to sell, but I'd have very little idea on how to price it, and I'm not really sure that my builds are really a salable quality...
Here's the thing about salable quality though - if someone is willing to buy from you, then it's definitively salable. And I'm sure there are more than a few folks on here, or elsewhere in the world, who would be interested in buying something you crafted.
Just something to think about if the urge to build again ever strikes you.
