THE SHORT SCALE BASS THREAD!

Gretsch Junior Jet = best short scale for the money, ever.

Yea, I still dream about having a custom Birdsong one day, but until then, this little red Corvette works great for me. Super hot pickups, excellent quality, solid neck and light weight.

Can't beat the price either!

Mosrites are 30" scale basses. I bought the sunburst one a couple of months ago. They have very low 'speed frets' so the string height can be adjusted very low. I'm recovering from surgery on my left index finger so the Mosrite is the only bass that I can play at the moment with my finger in a splint.

Had the first lesson today with my grandson and he's pretty excited. We just ordered a Gretsch Junior Jet Bass in sunburst. And now the fun begins!

Thanks everyone for the recommendations.

Sounds like you made a great choice!

Photos when it arrives - of course - are mandatory!

Best of luck to both of you on the continuing "bassic" relationship!

That blue and maple Mosrite just made my GAS bone twitch. Damn you! ;)

That one isn't a real Mosrite. I built that one myself. I had a guy build a body blank from a tracing of the 65 body and used a 5-string Carvin neck. I managed to squeeze a 34" scale with Fender string spacing into it. I think I made 6 bridges before settling on one that worked well. I made a bridge cover that I haven't installed yet.

It's in the house! WOW!! Love the tone from these humbuckers! So HUGE! But very clear! Fit and finish is perfect! Love the Birdseye neck, and glad I didn't mount the guard...plan on putting screw heads in the guard and going back and forth with the guard/nude.

Honestly, I don't understand pickguards on basses in most cases.
Many people play with fingers, not a pick. And, no matter how nice a pickguard can look, it almost never trumps the beauty of the wood or paint/finish.

On low end basses, I think pickguards are often there because it's probably a little easier/cheaper to build/route/wire.
On higher end basses, just not sure why the manufacturers bother.

That bass looks very beautiful without the pickguard.
