Thank you for your suggestion. Actually since I was missing one fret I had to push back the bridge and the tremolo 1" to have the proper 30" scale. I made sure I have 30" to avoid having intonation problems.

You may have noticed I won't use a pickguard and control plate for the knobs... I routed all the wiring on the core of the bass and I'll will make a cavity on the back of the bass instead.

I'll post later more pictures.

I think you just need to make sure the bridge saddles are the same distance from the 12th fret as the nut is from the 12th fret [am I right, guys?]... So your proper scale length may not be exactly 30"; it might be 30.3 or 30.5....

by the way, I got your friend request on MySpace this morning...Amazingly beautiful music!

Thank you for your comment on my music. At this moment I'm recording some more music and a friend of mine is helping me with the guitars... I'll post more music as soon as we are done.

ok, sorry in advance for the long post.....

i finally got hold of a burns barracuda on friday and so far im very impressed!

firstly, the "guards red" finish that looks so damn nasty in all the pictures looks more like an orange/salmon pink in real life- sounds like a small difference, but its nowhere near as trashy a finish as it looks!

contrary to what i had heard, the guitar came tuned E-A-D-G-B-E, maybe the dealer, bass direct set it up that way. i had also bought a set of fender vi strings which where a bit chunkier, so i put them on instead.

it took a bit of loosening the truss rod/lowering the bridge to get the action comfy, but it is more or less how i like it now (a little higher than usual, but hardly.) it plays like a dream, i felt no real discomfort in playing finger style, it is a little too noisy for slap/pop style probably, will have to wait till band practice to see if it can handle percussive right hand technique (not that i use it often).

as for the sound.. :eek:im running i though a ehx black finger comp.>>>digitech reverb>>>ampeg b200r, and it sounds really great-
it seems to have a huge amount of bass as well as crystal clarity on the higher strings. as a guitarist turned bass player its a real joy to be able to mix bass lines with chords/melodies on higher strings:)

the only problem ive had so far is that the bridge pickup is really far away from the strings...ive taken the advice given by lunarpollen of removing the springs from the pickup, and it works for the middle pickup but the bridge pup still seems to far away. im sure i will think of a way to fix that in time:ninja:

I've been reading all I can about the hellcat vi but I still have a question for you owners. I've heard a lot about the Fender Bass vi having a lot of setup issues and just being a pain to intonate, so does the hellcat have this problem too?

It is at the top of my wish list right now, so hopefully I will be able to be part of this club soon.

Congrats on the new Barracuda! Yeah, the bridge pickup is still a bit far away from the strings on mine, but that's the biggest complaint I can come up with about the instrument... I love my Barracuda... I noticed yours has different knobs on it than the standard ones... Did yours come that way?

It's not really any more difficult than intonating a typical short-scale bass... Might not be possible to get the low E string absolutely perfect, but it gets close enough....

The vibrato tailpiece & bridge are supposed to be the main reason why Bass VI's are hard to intonate. The Hellcat has a stoptail instead and I personally haven't had any problems with mine.

nah, it came with the standard knobs, but i swapped them straight away with 2 chickenheads, and a fender amp knob on the pickup selector/tone knob (just so its easy to pull up/down).

ive been thinking about the bottom pickup, and i think i might take it out, cut off the metal tabs where the ajustable screw threads through, and fix it with a block of wood to the underside of the body... i havent really opened the pickguard up yet, so i dont know how possible that will be, but it shouldn't be a problem to find a solution methinks

hi all,new guy here.....i'm a bassist and guitarist and am looking at getting a bass vi custom made and have a few hardware questions regarding the difference between the respective bridges,etc-are the spacings similar to a regular guitar?would i be able to use a regular guitar bridge or would i need something with more travel for intonation?cheers!

Most of them have the same or similar string spacing to a guitar. The Schecter Hellcat VI uses a guitar tune-a-matic bridge with the saddle slots enlarged for bass strings. It intonates fine.
