Sound clips can be found here. Not my guitar, these clips are from a Dano page.

kslight: I've been searching specifically for a Dano 6 string bass on the SF Bay Area Craigs List. It took about two years - it's really nice when the right instrument/good deal combo show up. Looks like the "Dead On" series may have brought the prices down on these reissues (geez, the current state of the economy may have something to do with it, too...) They were going for as much as $500 on ebay a couple of years ago. I picked mine up for $300 with a nice gig bag and 2 sets of strings, got to check it out first, etc. I'm pretty satisfied that I got a fair deal. I like the U2 look, even if it isn't historically accurate.

Those sound clips are slightly underwhelming...not sure why they even bothered to upload clips that are so short. They also sound like they were recorded direct...which doesn't seem like how most users would choose to play it.

It took me a few months to get my Schecter Hellcat VI...just because its hard to find anyone that consistently stocks it. Most stores require you to preorder it and wait a few months...I actually eventually found someone that happened to have one new, which was good because at the time apparently Schecter had exhausted their inventory and had to make more and it would have been a long time. Even now they seem hard to come by unless you want an eBay model... Musician's Friend hasn't had them in stock from January to now that I've noticed...I'm sure they've got one here and there, but from what I've seen anyway...they still require some effort to find.

I couldn't see myself paying more than $350 for a Dano-anything...for a little bit more money (or even the same money) I think a more flexible/reliable guitar can be had... Also since I tend to play heavier music with my VI I figured that the humbuckers of the Schecter were better suited to my style. Now that I'm looking for a second VI, I am seeking single coils though. I was considering a Jerry Jones VI but I think the Agile VI will be closer to what I am looking for and for probably less than half the price. The Dead on Baritone seems cool but I think I already have an excessive inventory of cheap guitars...

I picked up a VT Bass to-day.

The TB buzz on this pedal is BANG on target! It's the only and last overdrive pedal a 'VI player will ever need.

With my MIJ Fender VI's bridge & mid pickups-->overdriven VT, in its lower register my 'VI sounds like a guttural and raunchy Jazz Bass , whereas noodly, noodly on the higher strings sounds like a demonic Strat from hell!

If you haven't done so already, test drive a VT Bass.

Doing so will make you feel like a teenager all over again. :)

Hi noisetree.

Help us to help you by measuring the distance between the 'zero fret' (the one closest to the nut), and the 12th fret, then multiply the resulting figure by 2.

That'll tell us your Burns' scale length.

Knowing this will allow us to suggest string options.

EDIT: Check out post #559 for a link to where Bassman62 had strings made for his Burns.

EDIT #2: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (024w 034w 044w 056w 072w 084w) are the shortest length Bass VI strings that I know of.

They're made to fit the post #559.

They MIGHT fit your Burns...

The distance between the 'zero fret' and the 12th fret,multiply by 2
it is 74 cm(30 inch).
But distance between the bridge and machine head(higher string)is
109 cm(43 inch).

It's the distance between the tail-piece and the E 6th tuner capstan which is important.

According to the Quick Metric Converter, 74cm = 29.133858267716537"

I vaguely recall Bassman62 mentioning that his Burns' scale length was less than 30". (I'd have to plough through much of this thread to find that post...)

You could always contact Burns to obtain the exact specs. and string recommendations for your bass.

Nice! I like my VT-Bass too, but I haven't played my VI all that much through it. That'll have to change. :) Got any favourite settings that you'd like to share?

I received a reply from Burns...I´m going to copy/paste the
words:

"Sorry no information on your bass, we do not make or supply the short scale string you need.

Its totally resting in a place of glory amongst all his other junk at Graceland. Toured it on a Band and Orchestra trip to Memphis, and that was the only cool thing in Graceland IMHO. That, and a room entirely covered in shag carpeting. I may be biased though.

I just purchased a similar Dano (same color) on eBay yesterday. I will post photos after it arrives.

If I recall correctly it requires the D'Addario VI strings...not all that expensive to try, they either will fit or they won't.

Another good point of measurement might be to check the gauge of strings installed...if you don't have the correct tool for this any shop should do it for you for no charge I would think.

I'm beginning to wonder if Bassman62 was mistaken about his own instrument... There was a Split Sound Guitar that looked almost identical to the Split Sound Six String Bass, and it seems noisetree has the true bass version being that it has a 30-inch scale length. The Fender Bass VI 5350 set should fit it.
