The short scale thread!

Hello everyone, I recently purchased a CIJ Fender Mustang bass and it is awesome. I haven't got around to writing a review sorry. I apparently have been playing the wrong scale length all of this time, I absolutely love the 30" scale length. It feels like home and now I don't even like playing my 34" scale basses, there is just no disadvantage to the shortscale for my style and as far as sound goes it sounds shorter and fatter than my normal scale basses and that's what I've always wanted anyway.

Now my question: What other short scale basses are out there? Show em'!

P.S.: Don't be hatin', I've got small hands man!
and... I did a search and couldn't find a thread like this.

here's mine

i have the scarf on it because i was trying other objects other than hair ties, and i tried the scarf...that was about two years ago...i am just too lazy to take it off, so i pushed it above the nut, although looking at it now it reminds me of Charles Nelson Reilly...

Hello Ninja>Pirate,
RE: "Short Scale"

I had a fairly serious industrial accident in 2001 while installing a LAN in a convention center.

My fretting hand was pretty much smashed by something heavy and moving fast. Long story short..over a year of intense physical rehab, no guitar OR bass playing was allowed as it healed. As a result of the accident, the left hand will never be the same, it will simply be weaker than B4.

Enter into the picture my 1975 Carvin SB60 30" scale, maple bass. Up to the time of hand-smashing thing, my Fender P-bass Lyte ruled, now I find I can play much longer using the short-scale Carvin. Short scale basses really do play and sound differant..so I'm with you on that.

"just found 'er in the closet and dusted 'er right off.. still played good as new!" :bassist:

Here's my 1970's LP bass copy. It's Check made Jolana "Diamant". It was my first bass, I bought it SH in 1987.
30" scale, two humbuckers and suprisingly good tone. I want to get rid of it but just can't make myself let go.

Is that a D tuner:bassist:
It is indeed.

It is actually tuned to a low C# on a couple of my basses.

One is tuned to a low C natural. Bear in mind that these basses are all in standard tuning when the lever is up. Intonation doesn't change at all and tension is still great. Fantastic system.

'65 hagstrom bass next to a '69 harmony tenor guitar.

the electronics were in such bad shape i ended up taking them all out,
the pups are wired to the output jack. they have a great, funky round 70's porn tone when plucking but are bit microphonic so if you add some fuzz and delay it makes it a great rock/noise/feedback bass.
it has an extremely thin neck, like a guitar, and is really easy to play chords on- very cool with open tunings. super mojo with this one- best 200.00 bass i've had.
'2005 mij fender.

great bass, a killer action, fat neck and a big chunky p-bass type sound. much more even sounding across the fretboard than the hagstrom, but not quite as fun....
