Thanks, that's not bad at all, I might have to get a set, but I have to wait for the 300 to come in to see how good they really are. I am not crazy about the pups in the old version, I find they are uneven between the strings
Has anyone out there had the opportunity of trying the new SR800 or SR805 with the burled poplar top? I think they look awesome, but have yet to come across one.
I have my Candy Apple Red SR 305 which plays wonderful. This one gave me renewed faith in Ibanez[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Also my SR300 DVM which arrived today, other than being disappointed by the brightness it is also a beautiful bass, especially for the price[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I've got a 1997 SR406, and I would like to replace the preamp in it. It is very noisy (think hum, like a bad ground, but it's apparently not a bad ground), and I had a tech check it out. He told me it was noisy, and not a shielding issue like I had originally thought. The problem is this: I'd like to get new pickups and preamp. Preferably the current Ibanez stock CAP pickups and matching preamp. However, my bass doesn't have a separate battery cavity, and I don't want to route into it. Is it possible to do that, or should I try and find the original preamp with the battery attached to the preamp board in one cavity? I've looked at the Ibanez website for parts, and it only goes back to 2000. The SR406 for 2000 appears to have the same preamp on the site (picture on the site matches the one in my bass), however when I search for it online, the picture that pops up is NOT the same. Any suggestions? I'll crosspost this in the Ibanez Club as well. Thanks guys! Always love the help I get here!
Hey everyone, I just picked up a SRX400 MO it's the Martini Olive single MM humbucker model.
With the white pick guard .... Very sweet looking.

It's a sweet axe, but I'm afraid that the pup is way too hot for my liking.... I'm really digging the pup configurations of my other 3 SR's...
Which are either dual EMG'S , Bart's and ADX P/J set ups.
Does anyone have any suggestions to try to tone it down if that's at all possible.. Are there any replacement pups that are "calmer" so to speak? I ask that simply because I hate fiddling around and changing the settings on my amp... Call me lazy... I know.... But it seems like the older I get the easier I want things... like um... velcro on my work shoes ya know!!! LOL!!!!
Though that bass is hot.... These Ibanez's are really choice!
However, the thought did enter my mind to maybe sell her... IDK.....

You could probably find a Bart pickup that would fit in there?
If you do want to keep it and want a specific size pickup made Christoph at Basscultures makes reasonably priced custom made pickups.

The little white washer type ring that's part of the machine head has busted on one of my tuners...
Does anyone know where I could find such a tiny washer? Lowes? Home Depot? Or should. Simply buy a cheesy single machine head and just use the one that comes with that one?
OR
Does it make a HUGE difference if its still on there but split?

Budget is $250, max. The different preamp is a problem because I don't want to route the bass, and the preamps I like and am familiar with require routing.
Cheaper to just buy another bass. I know that sounds crazy, but used Ibanez basses are incredibly cheap. Even sixers. Just guessing - I'd think a new pre would probably be a couple hundred bucks, and a pair of pickups somewhere around 100-150.

Same thing happened to my SR605 (brilliant idea to use a plastic component in such a critical mechanism, btw
). I ordered another machine head through the local Ibanez dealer.
Yeah, the preamp is about $110-120 online, and I'd have to order it. My only problem is newer preamps have a separate battery cavity and this bass does not. Any recommendations for a good preamp that has the batterycavity included?

That little washer is one of several friction washers that provides the proper resistance to keep the tuner from backing up under use (vibration, etc.). It is probably OK to use as is, but it will deteriorate over time. Although you may be able to find something to work, chances are it may not work as well as you would like. The most straightforward solution is to replace the entire machine with a factory original. (Or replace them all with upgraded machines like the Hipshot Ultralights.)

Regarding using plastic, it is common to use plastic for a friction washer. I've seen this on high quality tuners.
