If you're looking to change PUPs you might want to check this out. I posted it already in the Ibanez forum. I was surprised at how drastically different the MK4s are from the MK1s. Much better lows but very thin highs.

SDGR fans in the USA might be pleased to see that the EU only SR1600 Splated Polar top is now available as a ''Limited'' basis..no news of these for us down in Oz tho'

The top is actually Popular burl. Sweetwater has had one up for a while, so I think they've been available.

All that said, this is definitely my favorite looking Ibanez. Has me thinking about moving some stuff to make it happen.

I just don't understand the fascination with gold hardware on so many of the styles. Switching out the hardware is a cost and hassle that tips the scales in the other direction for me. /rant Sorry, I'll start a thread if I have to do that any more. :o

I actually like gold hardware especially on basses with light, golden woods. But I have to admit I've heard more people complain about it than say they like it. They might do better to offer it as an option.
I get a lot of compliments on my SR755 w/gold hardware.

I wish I could get past it. Just a preference. I would have bought a SR755 already if not for the gold hardware, coupled with the fact that I have an SR505. If I was without an SR, I'd probably do the 755 and just see if it grew on me. So there is that little factor that I already have something really close.

All that said, I wish they did offer silver or cosmo black as an option. Seems all the higher end, except for the some of the really high ones, don't offer any other options.

Just my druthers really.

I listened to the Licks 2 and 3 (1 isn't working for me) for the 700 with the MK4 neck. What order am I hearing these samples?

Not sure I understand the question. I played the same lick on each bass and labeled them the same. So if you listen to lick 1 on each bass you can compare them, same with 2 or 3. Each lick is designed to show a different aspect of the bass. Lick 1 is is just a blues scale in A. Lick two demonstrates the sound of the open strings. Lick three is a funk thing higher up the neck and shows what it sounds like with a burst of short notes.

Right, but in lick 2 (for the SR 700) you play with three different sounds. Is the first both pickups, then neck, then bridge? Just trying to verify which one I think is the MK4 neck PUP.

Ok...wow, difference in output. I dig the deeper sound of the MK4. IMHO, the MK1 sounds anemic compared to the 4. Still interested in these as replacements. Was this the stock preamp or something different?

The pre is stock.
I agree, the MK1 is weak after hearing the MK4 but understand that in addition to the big bottom end the top gets very thin. Listen to the G string on licks 2 and 3. That's the only reason I sold the 700. If you play on the G much at all it's hard to deal with it getting so thin. It is possible that another pre would help but that's a gamble. Basically I sold the 700 to buy the ATK which is fat everywhere. (Including the neck! Ha!)

OK, so I've been looking to upgrade the electronics on my old '97 SR306. I have a line on a set of Bartolini MK2s & matching preamp from another Ibanez (BTB676) for dirt cheap, and I love the Barts on my own SR505. Anybody know if these will fit in my old bass? I'd measure myself, but am in the middle of moving, and of course, packed and moved my tape measure. Won't have it for a while now. Hoping to get an assist from my wonderful TB brothers and fellow Ibby lovers. Thanks in advance!

When I 1st saw the sr1600 it did nothing for me then I picked it up and now I'm in love, the feel, lines, each bass is totally unique, the sound is so versatile, the only complaint is the crap plastic knobs. Well now the fender is out going as the Ibby could be No 1 for life!

Finally got my replacement bridge, Shiny! :hyper:Anyways, I ended up going with a different local dealer as the original one kept forgetting to place the order, PLUS it ended up being only $40 from them :cool:

I just installed the new replacement bridge on my 505. I thought I should let others know that there is a big improvement between the new and the bent one.
The original bridge had very little metal between the intonation adjustment screw and the hole for the ball end cup. That is where mine bent.
The new bridge has over double the thickness in that same area. So, I'm thinking this should hold up well.
I was using fairly high tension D'Addarios when it broke. Rotosounds today. I'm still scared to restring it with any tighter strings.
