The 800LE was purchased not long after i started working for Ibanez, i scored a spare 'prestige' truss cover from tech dept. and put it on - i thought 'what the hell...it is a FujiGen after all, should be worthy of the prestige label lol!!!'

The real prestige below it was my departure present, it will probably be the last Ibanez i will now own, but i do really dig the premiums - and from seeing some of the action first hand...i can tell you that being made in Indonesia is nothing to be ashamed of! - They are beautiful ibby's for the price.
Glad to see a dedicated SDGR thread!

60 - dsuich - Can't go wrong with a 500

61 - Swin - Love that 5000, those are beautiful basses!

Darknes40 - I don't know of anyone that makes custom necks for Ibbys. You may have to go all custom for that. I know even getting a replacement neck from Ibanez is expensive and involves send your bass back to them and they put it on. They're VERY protective of their neck designs.

Staccato - most of my pics are taken with my 4S. A few that are up here were taken with a digital camera but all the pics of my 3005 and the pics on my original post were taken with the 4S. It really takes some great pics.

Hey everyone,
Just came upon and joined this forum in the quest for my first five string. After playing multiple brands i decided on the sr505. I couldn't be happier with it. The super slim body and neck are just amazing. Close strings allows for some speedy playing. I got a boss distortion and flanger effects as well, 50 bucks for both in working condition so i couldn't pass it up.

I got my Soundgear last evening. A SR 705. Paid for it on a Sunday and collected it last night and brought it immediately to a jam session, and it was my first session with a 5-stringer... Talk about a trial by fire! Lol! Hit a few bum notes here and there and got the guitarist confused when he tried to follow me! But it was a good session and I thoroughly enjoyed the bass... Simply love it. The weight of the body, the tone that it gave and the neck feel. Just perfect for me.

I previously had an old 2nd hand Soundgear bought about 7 years ago (not sure whats the model). Bought another second Soundgear and sold it 3 months later but still kept that first 2nd hand Soundgear though... Bought and switched to an Epiphone Thunderbird but because of my shoulder and back problem, and added to the TBird's neck-diving, I know I just gotta get a ligher bass soon. Tried a couple of bass, Specter, Schecter, Fender, etc... but still came back to the Soundgear. To put it simply, it's just feels like coming home again after you went and wander away for like 7-8 years.

I'll try to post a pic soon. I'm at work now... but I'm already missing my Soundgear bass already! :D

On the 800LE, are those just decals on the fretboard?

Having worked at Ibanez, any other SR's in your collection? I was always a huge fan of the SR800's - was sad to see them go the way of the dinosaur when Ibanez shifted production away from the Fuji plant.

It was custom painted by the tech guys to look as 80's as possible! - It also has a 'JS Signature' logo on the headstock (my initials) and a limited edition 1/1 custom serial on the back of the headstock. But my favourite custom bass is my EX with monorails, custom EMG's, USA custom neck and hipshots to round it all off...in deep purple with neon orange controls and f-holes (too look like a PGM guitar!)
Iv'e had Ibanez' come and go over the years, most were given away to friends or ex bandmates etc, but I always kept on to the 800 as it was a first edition from '88 - i used to have a 505 and a six string sitting on either side of the desk so i could bang away while inbetween calls from dealers which made the day go so much quicker. Iv'e also had a K5 and a Mikro which was actually set up as a baritone which was pretty cool...i keep telling myself to scan all of my photos one day and post em up so ppl can see what goes on behind the scenes but what can i say? - i'm too lazy!

besides the basses the stuff i love the most from my days at Ibby were getting to meet the greats whenever they came around on tour...Steve Vai (i have one of his guitars) Paul Gilbert (i have 2!) - i got some free lessons from Satch and Wes Borland once too. tell ya what i really miss piggybacking on the company to get freebies and not look like such a groupie when around these muso's...shame music retailing is now dead and half of us are out of work... these days iv'e had to go back to being a mechanic to keep the bills small and the beer topped up again.

Actually i just also realised - that massive table made of quilted maple with the star inlay that the 5000 is sitting on was a gift from Hoshino and was made in the FujiGen plant...it was in our conference room and you could sit something like 15 people around it!

PDGood - You should try a set of DR lo-riders. I have them on my 1015. I'm probably gonna restring the 905 and 3005 with them soon, they sound great.

Swin - that table is awesome too. Got any more pics of it?

Stiles72 - my only issue with the 800/885 was the body, I wish it was contoured like the higher end Japanese models.

Just got my first-ever SR yesterday...SRT900DX. I didn't even know the model existed until an hour or so before I ordered it last week on impulse. Saw the specs and figured it was rather like an Ibanez equivalent of the Spector Euros I used to own, but with a satin neck (which I much prefer to gloss) and an upper horn that comes up to the 12th fret so it doesn't hang shifted as far to the left as the Spectors. Curiosity was piqued and I had to try it.

Love it so far. Probably the most comfortable neck I've ever played, beautiful woods, and pretty much the kind of tight, articulate sound I'd expect from EMG's. Swapped the Elixirs for Marcus Miller Fat Beams straight off and those dodgy plastic knobs (esp. the concentric ones) have got to go, but other than that, very pleased.

That thing is gorgeous! That's a pretty piece of Ovangkol! The NT Soundgears are really something!

And I agree, the plastic knobs do have to go. I replaced the knobs in my 1015 and it looks a lot better, I'll be doing that on my 3005 once it's finished.

Can you get some more pics of the fretboard? That looks like a beautiful piece of rosewood!
