i'm new to the forum, but i'm a huge fan of the soundgears. definitely my favorite basses.

Thanks Solar. I love everything about my 700 except one - it has wonderful sound, great flame top, neck straight as an arrow (actually a little too straight), and the lightest bass I have ever picked up. It's a quality instrument from top to bottom and a lightening fast neck.
My only complaint is I hate the input jack. Unplugging is impossible by grabbing the plug itself, you have to grab the cable. Who designed that? It's even tough to plug in because you have to get the precise correct angle. Anybody know of a way to change this set up? Then I'd love everything about it.

Thanks to all for the string info. I know everyone has their own favorite brand of strings. I asked about the ones on it because they are exactly what I like - sound, weight, and moderate string stiffness. Also they are bright without being brash.

I may even try the Elixir's on my SRX. I've been through a lot of different strings trying to find the right ones for it. The highs on that bass are a bit harsh and string squeak from sliding is very pronounced so lots of strings that sound good on other basses don't work well on that one. I started with D'Addario nickels which are my standard - didn't tame it - too brash. Went to Rotosound stainless - a move in the wrong direction. (I hadn't played stainless before so I plead ignorant). Went to D'addario tape wound which was extreme in the other direction. Very thumpy, no life at all. Went to D'add Chrome flats which I liked. Yes, they're a bit thumpy but worked OK in the mix for songs that didn't require a lot of sustain and worked brilliantly on the bridge pickup with tone rolled off to capture an electric fretless sort of sound. Nice. But that was fairly limited so I kept looking. Went to Rotosound Pressure wound which reduced string squeak but felt rough and were a bit dull on the top end. Then I went to Black Beauties which I still can't decide if I love or hate. I kept those on longer than anything else. They reduce string noise and mellow out the harshness better than anything else, but have a funny nylon sound to them. The black looked great on that bass too. I currently have Rotosound 66s which are pretty nice but too stiff. And on it goes...

I got my Soundgear last evening. A SR 705. Paid for it on a Sunday and collected it last night and brought it immediately to a jam session, and it was my first session with a 5-stringer... Talk about a trial by fire! Lol! Hit a few bum notes here and there and got the guitarist confused when he tried to follow me! But it was a good session and I thoroughly enjoyed the bass... Simply love it. The weight of the body, the tone that it gave and the neck feel. Just perfect for me.

I previously had an old 2nd hand Soundgear bought about 7 years ago (not sure whats the model). Bought another second Soundgear and sold it 3 months later but still kept that first 2nd hand Soundgear though... Bought and switched to an Epiphone Thunderbird but because of my shoulder and back problem, and added to the TBird's neck-diving, I know I just gotta get a ligher bass soon. Tried a couple of bass, Specter, Schecter, Fender, etc... but still came back to the Soundgear. To put it simply, it's just feels like coming home again after you went and wander away for like 7-8 years.

I'll try to post a pic soon. I'm at work now... but I'm already missing my Soundgear bass already! :D

Great collection, Lowdown. I also have a Markbass head and like the combination, although I have Barts on my model and you've got Nordstrands on your top end model. Very different.
With the Barts I have to be very careful of what cabinet to use. My Eden XLT is almost too much of the same thing (emphasizes the same low mids). In the store I tried out the 700 and a 900 with Nordstrands through a Markbass combo amp with a 15 and I was in absolute heaven. That sound was what convinced me to buy the bass. When I got it home and heard it through my own rig, it wasn't nearly as nice. The MB fifteen emphasized just the right frequencies of the Ibby/Markbass amp combo.

I use the Markbass Tube 800 head with Markbass cabs.

Any combo of:

2-2x10s
2-4x10s

2-Tube 800 heads

Currently I'm using:

1 tube head on top of 2x10 on top of a 4x10, then the second head with the same set up for stereo effects.

IngerAlb - Anytime, and my SR905 actually is quilted, it's pretty rare but a few of them actually got quilted maple instead of flame. mookie20hz posted a pic of his on page 42 of the ibanez club 4 and he has a great quilt on his too. It's the only other one I've seen with a quilt on it, actually. Here are some more pics of mine:

Yes I got it new I'm picking it up tomorrow I'll post some pics when I get it out of the box
