Gregvds, Campbems, and Pachap, those are some really nice Premium basses you guys picked up - many congrats!
I'd sure like to know how they sound tonally compared to the SR500-800 series having the Nordstrands instead of the Barts(?).

Gregvds - I sincerely hope you're happy - I know you were struggling with what to do about the other one. My 705 has a similar mark on the fretboard as well, but it's pretty minor - no biggie. Oh yeah - it looks great!

Campbems - I really like those wood knobs. It really accents the Burl top!

Pachap - Very nice woodgrain, and the back of the neck is sweet looking!

I highly recommend replacing the pickups as well, then. The ADX and Vari-Mid were designed to work as a system, and I have never had, nor heard tell, a positive experience messing with their synergy. If you prefer the Bartolini sound, then I'd throw some Bart pups in along with the pre and call it a day.

What do you mean? The bottom knob is a continuous, smooth sweep from 200hz to 1000hz; top knob is boost/cut. To understand it better, I would dime the mids, flat the bass and treble- or even cut slightly- and slowly turn the sweep knob while playing. I've also found it better to *cut* mids that you *don't want*, than boost the ones you do.

Thanks Solarmist for the kind words. I'm relieved, and the new one has much less worrying problems than the last one. I'm still in the process of forgetting the former one and acquiring the new one if you see what I mean; I miss the wood patterns and grain, but I remind myself all the problems she had and the new one does not, and am much more happy and mind set (not english, but hope the sense of it to translate more or less). Soundwize, it's the same, for the best. She's a tad less heavy, 3.9Kg against 4.1Kg. I was surprised at first how much less it was for only 200grs less. I had one disappointing moment discovering the touchup back-bottom and fingerboard fourth box, but my luthier did a perfect job polishing the fingerboard, and he even redressed the ends of the frets (premium treatments make them bulging balls, he recessed them a bit). He set the action a bit lower than factory, and told me He had to make a full fret dressing to go lower. We agreed I'd play it for some months, time for everything to settle down, and then make all the fixes needed. He cleaned and matted some bottom and back of the body parts that were a tad rough from manipulation or less than perfect sanding, all with steel wool for the best. Now she's smooth as a pebble, without the rough edges of the last rosewood top slabs and no cracks at all, nowhere to be seen. I really think the new one is mechanically better. I also recall one of the four neck attaching screw was really badly angled on the former one; in comparison, the new one has them four properly flat screwed in their hole, all leveled. I prefer not to think how the last one was bolted now I think of it.

I also had my TCE RS210 with the RH450, and man, that can be a tad too muscular for my small apartment :-). Hopefully, the volume knob is sensitive enough to play at decent levels without shaking all my neighbors three houses left and right. It seems I could do it though if I would :-), that's good to know. I continue to find that amp to be amazing. The Nordstrands are very good too, passive or through the active onboard amp. I love currently to play some minor scale notes through my Alter Ego pedal; that fills the space endlessly, kind of analog delay, somehow reminding me of some synth nappes from Tangerine Dream. Low freqs relax me :-).

I'll post pics of the rig later if you want some eyecandy.

I think a pic is buried in this thread or part 3 or part 2...ha. can't remember. I will post another one later. Its a 1997 SR1015 MIJ. I walked into a Guitar Center and it was hanging on the wall for $300. Flawless. Just a bent pot. Cool bass. The only thing separating this bass from a Prestige are the electronics IMO. Hopefully soon that will change. I have a number but that was when the the guy started this club. Is he still around?
