Basses that don't make the pass thru quality get a S stamped on the back of the headstock of the bass or guitar and sold for a hefty discount. I've bought 2 and e dealer I got them from have been every but as good quality wise as the ones that I bought factory direct. That's how you will know if it's a what most belle call a B stock item.

I guess I would like to know what some of you folks fav strings are on the SR800 after trial and error with many sets?

I definitely plan on keeping this bass, so buying 2 more set of strings in addition to the EB rounds presently on the bass is something I look forward to actually!

I want to make sure I am getting the full variety of tones available with the active P/J setup and EQ adjustments.....then maybe settle on 1 set of strings?

I have extra light roundwounds on my SR800. A lot of the brightness I can tone down with the EQ. I put these strings on there because it's the bass I use for heavy slapping not popping (think Mark King). The strings make it so much easier for this and also for tapping.

I agree the onboard EQ works wonders with the SR800...the EQ/active pickups are new to me.

I am fairly happy with the Ernie Ball rounds.....this is hands down my most versatile bass....just a matter of getting more familiar with amp settings together with the EQ on the bass itself.

I hear a LOT of great sounds and since I use a pick a lot, the EQ makes it especially versatile to vary pick attack.

Given the primary difference between 2/3 and 3/2 arrangement is the direction the tuner button of the "A" string faces, your explanation just doesn't make sense from a mechanical or musical standpoint. The overall length of all stings remains fix by the relationship of bridge to nut (commonly refereed to as scale length). I understand how pitch, scale length, and type/size of string can affect string tension. Two-over-three tuners provide a slightly longer overall string length bridge anchor to tuner post for the B-string, and some claim -- including Ibanez -- that this additional length yeilds a less floppy B-string. I can't claim to understand the physics here; I'm merely reporting what I have heard.

OK, I picked up the SR705.

WOW!! This bass is pretty friggin' great!

Aside from buzz on the 8th fret (mainly D & G strings) that I will try to remove with a love tap or two, and the intonation needing to be set better, it's a really nice instrument all the way around. It comes with Elixers and they sound OK but soon the bass will be set up with Rotosound swing bass 45-130.

Lightweight, nice narrow spaced strings, the neck is super comfortable, it's balanced perfectly and the sound is incredible.:bassist:
This bass through my rig will knock down small buildings.
Too bad my camera is broke or I'd attach a pic or two.

The biggest problem I have is deciding the first tune to play on it. I'm thinking Metal Fatigue...

Buzzing at the 8th - sounds like it may need a little more relief (loosen an 1/6 to a 1/4 turn) - it's real easy with an Ibby SR having the flip-open truss rod cover. You want about a business card or two for clearance at the 9th. You always re-check relief when changing string types/gauges.

Oh, I've set up basses for over 30 years now. No problem.
This bass has really low action.

1/4 turn of relief and it's good, although there is a slight, and I mean slight, rise at the 8th as I sight down the neck.
Not a problem now though... and the first tune was.. "Metal Faitigue" by Allan Holdsworth.
The bass sounded great with this track.

It plays so well. This is a quality instrument.
